Be it known that'I, Lewis L. HEPBURN, of the city county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a certain, new and useful improved Magazinedlirearm, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact speciiioation.

My invention relates particularly to a new and improved device for attaching a cartridge magazine to a rearm, and consists in the mechanism hereinafter fully described. y

The object of my invention is to construct a simple and effective mechanism to facilitate the attachment or detachment of the magazine of firearm, the said mechanism affording at the same time a plug for the outer end of magazine. f

My invention is illustrated by the accom panying drawings, in which vFigure i is a side elevation of my invention in operation. Fig. 2 is an end View ot' the mechanism shown in Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a crosssecticn on the line x-a; Fig. i, and Fig. 4 is a longitudinal section on the plane of the line y-y Fig. 2.

A, is a gun barrel.

i3 is cartridge magazine.

D is detachable endpieee adapted to close 'the enter end of the magazine. Extending upward from the end-piece D are the arms E. These arms are curved, as shown, to closely embrace the sides of the gun barrel A.

F is a slot extending longitudinally into the side et' the end piece from a peint between the arms E E. Y

G l is a set -scrcw passing transversely through the arm E, and into the arm E into which arm it is adapted to screw. By preference this screw passes just below the lower sideof the barrel A, and al'tcrds a means for drawing the two arms E E toward each other, and thereby causing them to iirnily clasp the sides of the gun barrel. It is desirable that another screw Il be provided te extend through the side of the magazine i3 and the endepiece D, to prevent th`e possibility of the said end piece twisting in, or slipping from, the end of the magazine, thereby keeping the alignment otl the magazine and thev barrel perfectly true. The rear end of the magazine is connected to the stock of the firearm in the ordinary and well-known manner.

In operation, the arms E E are slipped over the sides of the barrel and the end-piece attached to the outer end of the cartridge maga: zine. The screws G and II are then turned into place, and the parts are thereby securely assembled.

It is obvious that the end-piece D may be either a plug as shown, or an ordinary cap to serve the same purpose.

Having thus described my invention, what l claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a magazine firearm, a detachable endpiece for closing the outer-end of the magazine provided with upwardly projecting curved arms to clasp the sides of the barrel, substantially as described.

2. In a magazine tirearm, a detachable endpiece to close the magazine, said .end piece being slotted as described and provided with two curved arms to clasp the barrel and a setscrew to secure the same, substantially as and for the purpose spepiied.

3. In a magazine rearm, the slotted end piece extending into the forward end of the magazine, and`to be there secured by the means described and provided withi two cu rved arms to clasp the barrel and a screw to set the same, substantially as described.

Tn a magazine firearm,- the detachable end piece D extending into the forward end of magazine and there secured by the means of the screw Il, said end piece being provided with two upwardly curved arms E E with a slot F between said arms and a set screw G,

substantially as described.
