TOY CANNON.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 525,307, dated August 28, 1894.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, CHARLES A. BAILEY, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cromwell, in the county of Middlesex and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Cannons; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

Figure 1 of the drawings is an elevation of the invention and Fig. 2 is a top plan view of same.

This invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in toy cannons, the object being to provide a device of this character having a frame or carriage of peculiar construction, and the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described and pointed out in the appended claim.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, illustrating the invention, the letters A, A, designate the supporting wheels, E the frame, and C the cannon. The frame B comprises a forked body portion between which the cannon is centrally supported by means of trun nions a, a, which engage bearings b cast in the forward portions of the arms or forks c, c, of the said body portion; the depending arms d, d, which project from the forward ends of the arms 0, c, and which at their lower portions support an integral axle barf extended laterally to form the journals for the supporting wheels; the depending tail portion g, which projects from the point where the arms 0, c, converge, and which forms the support for the rear portion of the carriage; and a downwardly curved transverse arm h, which connects the two arms 0, c, and supports the breech and cascabel portions of the cannon. This entire frame is cast in one piece, the trunnions of the cannon being subsequently slipped into the bearings b, and secured against removal by bending down over one of said trunnions, a piece of wire F, which is cast into a lug 2' of the frame.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- In a toy cannon, the combination of the integral frame, comprising the forked body portion formed with bearings, the depending arms (I, d, carrying an axle, a depending tail portion, and a breech-supporting arm, of a cannon supported centrally of said body portion, and having trunnions engaging the bearings thereof, and a piece of wire cast into said frame and bent down over one of said trunnions, substantially as specified.
