SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 266,410, dated October 24, 1882,
Application filed February 7, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM 0. W001), of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved device or attachment for the support of thills, shafts, or poles of a wagon, buggy, or other vehicle at a desired angle when the same is not required for use, of which the following is a specification.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a section,ofa thillcoupling, showing my attachment.
- The object of my invention is to provide a simple and durable device for supporting the thills or pole of a wagon or other vohiclewhen not in use.
The invention consists in the arrangement of spring-catches between the clips of an axle or wagon-body lowing manner. I
Fig-1 represents a portion of an axle, H, and clip B, to which is attached one end of the spring A, while the other end is left free to vibrate a given distance. At this (the vibrating) end of the spring there is a lug, D, which corresponds with the catch E, located in the upper side of the thills or pole, as shown, sothat when the thills or pole is raised to assume the and the thills or pole in the folposition-shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the lug and catch unite by the elasticity of the spring and 0 prevent the said pole or thill from falling until a little greater weight is applied thereto. Therefore it should be understood that the spring is only made strong enough to sustain the thill or pole in the desired position when raised, but is not strong enough to resist more than a little additional weight to throw the lug of the spring and the catch E out of contact.
It may here be stated that the fixed end of 40 for the purpose of supporting the same, as
shown and described.
