Description

, UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JEAN DELPHIS OLIGNY, OF ST. HENRI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO C. F. BEAUCHEMIN & CIE., OF MONTREAL, CANADA.
GARBAGE AND SAWDUST FUEL.
SPECIFICATION forming part; of Letters Patent No. 524,488, dated August 14, 1894. Application filed January 8, 1894. Serial No. 496,169. (N0 sp i To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JEAN DELPHIS OLIGNY, of St. Henri, in the district of Montreal, in the county of Hochelaga and Province of Quebec, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garbags and Sawdust Fuel; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
My invention, which will be hereinafter fully set forth and claimed, relates to artificial fuel obtained from the utilization of garbage, manure, sawdust and other waste pro ducts, such as coal dust; also peat and the like.
The object of my invention is two-fold being the manufacture of a cheap artificial fuel and at the same time the disposal and utilization of waste products, such as garbage, ma nure, sawdust and coal dust, also peat and the like.
I make a composition of the following ingredients well mixed together: two thousand five hundred gallons of petroleum, five gallons of benzine, one eighth of a gallon of sassafras oil, one sixteenth of a gallon of aqua-ammo nia and two hundred pounds of common salt,- this quantity being suificient to make one hundred tons of fuel. This composition is then heated and sufficient sawdust, garbage, ashes, manure, coal dust and other refuse, all or any of them, in their raw state, as collected from mills, houses and streets, are thrown into the composition as will be completely absorbed by it and to give the mass the desired consistency when well stirred and mixed. In some localities where peat is readily and cheaply obtainable it. may be used with advantage in addition to the above or as a substitute for sawdust if this waste product is scarce. When the mass cools, it becomes stifi and hard and can be readily broken up into pieces convenient for use.
The proportion to each other of sawdust, garbage, ashes, manure, coal dust and other refuse or peat and also the quality and value of the fuel will be governed by the supply of the different materials, one object being to get rid of the refuse and the other to obtain the best value from their disposal.
I claim as my invention- 1. An artificial fuel composed of garbage and other refuse in such quantity as will completel y absorb a composition consisting of two thousand five hundred gallons of petroleum, five gallons of benzine, one eighth of a gallon of Sassafras oil, one sixteenth of a gallon of aqua-ammonia and two hundred pounds of common salt or in about the proportions named, the whole yielding about one hundred tons of fuel, substantially as set forth.
2. A composition for the preparation of artificial fuel, consisting of two thousand five hundred gallons of petroleum, five gallons of benzine, one eighth of a gallon of sassafras oil, one sixteenth of a gallon of aqua-ammonia and two hundred pounds of common salt or thereabout, substantially as set forth.
3. An artificial fuel composed of any absorbent material or refuse such as sawdust, peat and the like in such quantity as will completely absorba composition consisting of two thousand five hundred gallons of petroleum, five gallons of benzine, one eighth of a gallon of Sassafras oil, one sixteenth of a gallon of aqua-ammonia and two hundred pounds of common salt or about the proportions named, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed in the presence of the undersigned witnesses.
JEAN DELPHIS OLIGNY.
