Be .it known that I, JAMES H. FoOTE,acitizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, Hamilton county, State of Ohio, haveinvented a certain new and usefullmprovement in Sash-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
The object of my invention is to provide a suitable device to be attached to the bottom sill of a window-frame to co-act with another device attached to the bottom stile of a window sash, said two devices being so constructed and attachedl to said frame and sash as that the latterwill be automatically drawn up tightly, at its bottom portion, against the side wall of the vertical grooves in said frame when said sash is lowered to place, as will more fully hereinafter appeal'.

The operation of my improved sash-fastener is quite simple and eective. The hanged plates D and E are so attached to the frame and sash, respectively, that when thelatter is lowered, the concave portion of flange d will slide down over the convex portion of liange e, which action tends to draw the lower portion of the sash inward tightly against the inner side strips, a, and the bottom strip C, thus rendering that portion of the window comparatively air-tight, and at the same time preventing the sash from rattling. The straight vertical portions, f, of the twoflanges, tend to securely hold the sash in position until released by an upward pressure upon the handholds m, or other portion of the sash.
The advantage of my invention is quite apparent, operating as it does to hold the lower portion of a sash tightly against its strips to prevent rattling, dac., whichA operation is accomplished automatically by the lowering of the sash itself. The devicesfor accomplishing the aforesaid results arecheap of manufacture, and are readily applied to any ordinary window having a movable sash.
While it is preferred to construct the locking-plates with flanges or projections of a configuration substantially semi-cone-shaped, said anges may be of any other desired operative configuration.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. As a new article of manufacture, asashfastenerconsisting of the two plates D and E having, respectively, thetianges d and e, for the purposes 'specied Y.
2. A grooved window-frame having a sash mounted within the grooves of said frame, the sill of said frame having the plate E and flange e attached thereto, and plate D having the flange d attached to the `lower stile of said sash,'a portion of each flange being formed straight in a vertical plane', substantially as set forth. l
