P. L. MARS. VEGETABLE SLIGER.
Patented July 3,1894.
Jnventor yaw 0a! if flw ms NORRIS PETERS ca, PHOTO-LIT!!! WASHINGTON. 'n c UNITED STAT s AT NT: OFFICE.
i PASCAL pMARS, on PEORIA, ILLINOIS.
VEGETABLE-SLICER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 522,266, dated July 3, 1894.
Application filed April 24, 1893' Serial No. 471,594:- (No model.) i
To aZZ whom it may concern..-
Be it known thatI, PASCAL L. MARS, a'citizen of the United States, residing at Peoria, in the county of Peoria and State of Illinois,
have invented certain new and useful Im-' provements in Vegetable-Slicers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, wh ch will enable others skilled in the art to wh1ch 1t appertains to make and use the same.
My Invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in vegetable slicers, by
formed by the uniting of the blades sepa-' rated by suitable washers, and all connected by suitable bolts to provide for the withdraw ing of the knives from the frame structure, of the vegetable slicer frame work, and of the detailed construction of the device as hereinafter specified and claimed.
That my invention may be more fully understood reference is had to the'accompanying drawings, in which- Figurel isa plan view of the device shown with the receptacle open .the lid being thrown back. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the device upon the line wm, and also through thecover or lid, the device being shown closed. Fig. 3 is a detailed view showing the locking means provided for the drawer. Fig. 4 is a detail view showing the form of washer and its adustment in connection with the blade and general framework. Fig. 5 is a detail sec tional view of the double-edged blades.
In the figures, A refers to the general rectangular frame-work which is supported upon the legs L. 1 L
A indicates an opening or passage way for the drawer B.
C, is a lid or coverhinged to the main frame work as at J by means of the lugs 01-01 and attached arm (0). Y
V fin the lid is a recessprovided to facilitate the closing down of the lid over the fastening means or turn finger GK e e- 'e ,& c.', are thin blades preferably formed with-double edge tapering from cen- 5 5 terto the respective outer edges, but may be formedin any suitable manner.
' ,i-i &c., are separating washers formed as shown and perforated as well as the blades to carry through ,the rods m-m, which connect all the saidblades, washers and the respective end pieces of the drawer to hold them in compact condition by means of suitable nuts applied. L
GG' are the respective parts of the fastoning means connected by means of the bolt G carried in the end piece 13 of the drawer.
'A A show merely the formation of the bottom to provide an opening that corresponds with the adjustment of the washers so that no obstruction will be presented for the passage through of the slices of vegetable, and (It) refers merely to a finger or hand hold to assist in the raising and lowering of the topv O.
In operation for'the purpose designed, the vegetables desired to be sliced being first placed within the receptacle above the drawer irisuch quantity as not to interfere with the operation of the device by being too closely 8o crowded together, the lid 0, is closed down over and within the receptacle and upon the vegetables and the said vegetables are pressed downward upon the knives, which being sharp readily slice the same, said lid being so constructed that when pressed fully down the lower face thereof will rest upon the upper edges of the knives, thus providing for the complete slicing and pushing through of the Vegetables contained within the receptacle.
The receptacle being again filled, the same operation is performed with like results the next succeeding slicing operation always pushing fully through such slices as may be held between the blades after the previous operation.
The device may be constructed in any suitable form and the blades may be adjusted at any desired distances apart and any form of washer and lid may be usedand the knives [0o may be set within the frame and without the provision of the sliding drawer if desired, the lid may be constructed and attached in any suitable manner and the material usedin the general frame-work is preferably made of iron but the said frame work and lid and the respective elemental parts may be formed in any suitable manner and made of any suitable material to suit the operation in which the device is to be employed.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with the frame work A, supported bylegs L, and provided with drawer opening A, and having the lid 0 hinged to the main frame work of the drawer formed of the thin blades 6, e, e, 860., double edged, the separating washers i, i, t', &c.,the rods m,
20 m, carried through perforations in the said blades and washers connected with the end ers and blades together, and with the end pieces B, all substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereof I afix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
PASCAL L. MARS.
