SASH LOCK, LIFTER, AND HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 521,955, dated June 26, 1894.
Application filed January 3, 1894,
To all whom/it may concern:
Be it known that we, ROBERT GUY, residing at Ashton, in the county of Lee, and OR- LANDO E. REED, residing at Rochelle, in the county of Ogle, State of Illinois, citizens of the United States, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash Locks, Lifters, and Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to construct a device for looking a window sash in its closed position, and means by which the sash may be raised and held in its open position. In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1, s a face elevation showing our improvements in posltion upon the upper sash. Fig. 2, shows our improvements attached to thelower sash. Fig. 3, shows the position of our improvements when the sash is held open. Fig. 4, shows the position of the parts when the sash is being moved up or down. Fig. 5,. is an lsornetricalrepresentation of the base portion of our improved lock, lifter and holder. F g. 6, is an isometrical representation of the' plvoted latch portion.
The base portion supporting our improvements consists of a housing 1, having its face port1on 2, cut away forming a cavity being larger at the bottom, and diminishing in size toward the upper end, forming an inclined surface within which is placed a ball 3. This housing is provided with a recess 4,in its rear face, forming ears which are provided with perforations 5, and is alsoprovided with a central opening 6, communicating with the cavity in the face of the housing, and'is also provided with the downward extending porhousing is secured in place near the edge of the window sash by a screw 9, passing through i the perforation 5, in its upper portion and a screw 10, passing through the perforation 8,
The raising and lockingdevice consists of a lever 11, held between the ears of the upper portion of the housing, and the screw 9, passes through its perforated upper end, thereby forming a pivotal connection between the parts, and from the front face and near the lower end of the lever projects a tongue 12; and to the extreme lower end of the lever-extends a socket portion 13, having a curved Serial No. 495,570. (No model.)
arm 14, at the extreme end of which is located a cross bar 15. When the locking lever is placed in position, the inner end of the cross bar will lie in front of the lower extension 7, of the housing, and the tongue will enter the central opening 6, when the parts will appear as shown at Fig. 3.
When it is desired to raise the sash, the attendant places his finger in thesocket 13, and pulling up on it will bring the inner end of the cross bar 15, in contact with the front face of the extension 7, and at the same. time the tongue 12, will allow the ball 3, to drop into the lower end of the cavity in the front face of the housing, and the bringing of the cross ATENT OFFIC bar in contact with the housing forms a stop,
in order that the sash may be raised through the medium of our improvements, and the ordinary lifting means, and when it is desired to hold the sash raised or lowered, the attendant will release the latch lever allowing the tongue to pass under the ball raising it when the farther descent of the sash will crowd the ball between the housing and the window casing.
In order to hold the lower sash locked down,
we have arranged a catch 16, shown at Fig. 2,
which is-secured to the window casing and in a position that the outer end of the cross a pivotal connection with the housing, providedwith a tongue communicating with the cavity, said lever, an arm provided with a cross bar, and a catch for receiving the cross bar secured to the window casing.
ROBERT GUY. ORLANDO E. REED.
