Description

UNrrEo TATES rrrcrzio PATENT BARREL-HEAD.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 52,182, dated January 23, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OSEPH McOAMMoN, of Dayton, Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Barrel- Heads; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
In the annexed drawing, making part of this specification, A represents the barrel, and B represents the barrel-head. This barrel-head is made in two parts, each part being made with a flange and shoulder, the flange being made half the thickness of the head, so that when the two parts are placed together, and one flange is placed upon the other, the two are of the same thickness as the other portions of the head.
0 represents a piece of thick sheet metal, which is formed somewhat as shown in the drawing, being pivoted, as shown at w, to one portion of the head, and being provided with slots to a, through which pins or screws pass into the other portion of the head.
G represents an opening in the piece 0.
D represents adisk which is secured eccentrically to the same portion of the head to which the piece 0 is secured, and in the opening G of the piece 0. The disk D works against the sides of the opening G. and moves the piece O, and thus by means of the pins in the openings at a the two portions of the head are brought closer together or separated and made to fit in the groove in the barrel made for the rim of the barrel-head.
E represents a handle, which is provided with two pins, which fit into holes in the disk D, for the purpose ofturning the disk, and thus operating the two portions of the head.
It Will readily be seen that by this arrangement an adjustable barrel-head may be made which can be taken out or replaced without damage either to it or the barrel.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The metallic piece 0 and disk D, used in connection with the barrel-head, in two parts, as and for the purpose herein specified.
I11 witness that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of witnesses.
JOSEPH IVIGOAMMON.
