YHE NATIONA uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu Y,
I UNITED STATES,
PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED ARTUR RAUBOLD, OF GREMSMllHLEN, GERMANY.
WATER-MOTO R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 521,814, dated one 26, 1894.
Application filed November 16, 1893. Serial No. 491,184. (No model.)
To 00% whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED, ARTUR RAU- BOLD, a subject of the Emperor of Germany,
residing at Gremsmiihlen, Holstein, Germany,
have invented certain new and useful Im provements in Water-Motors, of which the fol-.
lowing is a specification.
The invention has for its object the utilization of the driving power'of water by the use of a screw arranged upon a central axis, the rotation of the screw being efiected by the water.
In the accompanying drawingsz-Figure 1,
shows a sectional view of my improved motor with the screw in elevation. Fig. 2, is a cross section through the casing, showing the tremity A of the siphon A of appropriate size and shape, a socket c is disposed, the lower extremity'of which is provided with a closing valve 0'. The socket is provided with a wooden edge (1 serving as a float, this lower end of the socket being beneath the surface. The other extremityB of the siphon, is enlarged to form acasing for the screw. The axle b is provided with foot support I) and at its top with a pulley e for setting in motion the machinery to be driven. In the lower extremity of the siphon I provide a series of blades f, the tenons of which are provided with conical wheels 9 in the interior of the axle b. These are simultaneously actuated by the driving apparatus h which is fixed upon the shaft 10 in the inte- 4 rior of the axle b. If the driving apparatus his turned by meausof the hand wheel I situated at the upper part, the blades f will move accordingly and will to a greater or less extent close the opening in the casing B. The hydraulic screw can be disposed so high in the casing B that the Water underneath can never have any influence upon its working. Thereby the full force of the falling Water can be used.
' For actuating the motor the two siphon extremities are closed and the siphon is filled with waterthrough the entrance socket c. If the siphon extremities are then opened, the water will run through the siphon in the direction of the arrows and will cause the screw to revolve;
Fig. 5, shows a horizontal disposition of the hydraulic screw for utilizing the driving power of running water. The absolute gravity of the screw is reduced by the hollow and air tight axle b and the friction of the journals is decreased; the hydraulic wheel floats with a certain depth of immersion. screw can also be disposed in a cylinder shaped casing m which is provided with a funnel shaped receiver 'n for the water.
I claim- In combination in a water motor, the vertical casing containing the screw, the siphon connected with the upper end of said casing,
the hollow screw shaft, and the means for closing the inlet end of the siphon and the outlet end of the casing comprising the valve C, the swiveled blades f carried by the hollow screw shaft, and the means for adjusting said blades consisting of the wheels g, h and the shaft is extending through the hollow screw shaft, substantially as described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
ALFRED ARTUR RAUBOLD.
