SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 520,920, dated June 5, 1 894.

Beit known that I, MARTIN V. GARVER, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Bryan, Williams county, Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wheelbarrow-Trays, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to wheelbarrow trays stamped or pressed from sheet metal, and the object of my invention is to provide a sheet metal tray with such corrugations, bends and fastenings, hereinafter described, as shall give strength to the tray, particularly at the corners upon which the tray strikes when dumped, which corrugations shall'also enable the tray to readily clear itself from its load when dumped. I attain these objects by means of the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, made part hereof, in Which-- b Figure 1, is a cross sectional elevation of my tray taken on line 00 at, Fig. 2, and Fig. 2, is a perspective view of the same.

My tray consists of a single piece ofsheet metal stamped or pressed into shape.
The sheet of metal from which my tray is formed has, in its fiat state, a V-shaped notch cut in each end. The bottom, a, of the tray is bent to incline from its sides 'at an angle downwardly to the longitudinal center of the tray, and this bending of the sheet brings together the neighboring edges of the flaps b b and c 0 formed by the removal of the V-shaped pieces above mentioned, which edges overlap and are secured together by rivets d, the front and rear of the tray thus formed being'bent outwardly as shown in the drawings. The bottom of the tray is corrugated asat e from near its central, longitudinal bend to near its outer edges, and the flaps forming the front and back of the tray are corrugated downwardly as at f from near their margins to near the lines of the bends between said flaps and the bottom of the tray.
The longitudinal bend in the center of the bottom of the tray, the bends at the meeting points of the flaps b b and c c and the bottom of the tray, together with the corrugations above referred to give great strength to the whole, permitting the manufacture of my tray out of much lighter sheet-metal than has heretofore been used for such purpose. The bend or angle g, gives particular strength to the tray at the point upon which the tray strikes when the barrow is tilted to dump its load.
In practice it is found that the corrugations in the bottom of the tray aid in freeing the tray from its load when dumped, and especially is this the case when the load consists of moist clay and the like.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In awheelbarrow tray, pressed or stamped from a sheet of metal, the bottom thereof having a central, longitudinal bend, in combination with the back and front, said back and front each consisting of two flaps, brought together and secured at their meeting edges, substantially as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
2. As an article of manufacture, a wheelbarrow tray, comprising in its constructiona sheet of metal having a central, longitudinal bend, end flaps secured together at their meeting edges forming the front and rear of said tray, corrugations laterally of the bottom of said tray, and corrugations in the front and back of said tray, substantially as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
