To all .whom t may concern.-

Be it known that I, ALMoN MINNEY, of Millbury, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts. have invented a n ew and useful Improvement in Lease-Rods for Looms; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this speci-V icatio'n, in which Figure l represents a plan of so much of a loom, as is necessary to illustrate said improvement. Fig. 2 is an end View thereof, looking in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side view of the parts shown in Figs. l and 2, looking in the direction of the arrow at the end of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is an enlarged plan view of part of the construction shown in Fig. l, which will'be hereinafter described, and Fig. 5 is a perspective view upon a still larger scale, of one of the supporting brackets of my improved device.

My invention relates to the yarn checking mechanism of a loom, and consists of certain improvements, whereby a yielding tension is imparted to the yarn or warp to keep it taut between the yarn-beam and harnesses, as will behereinafter more fully set forth.

In order that others may better understand the nature and purpose of my said invention,

I will now proceed to describe it more in detail.

In the drawings: A, represents part of the loom-frame; B, the yarn or warp beam; C, the yarn or warp unwound therefrom, and D D the lease rods over and under which the yarn or warp strands alternately pass to separate the same and impart the necessary friction thereon to keep them taut, and thereby prevent their becoming snarled or entangled in weaving.

I claim nothing new in the tion.

My invention consists simply in combining with the aforesaid lease-rods, means whereby a back, yielding tension may be imparted thereto, and consequently to the yarn or warp, of sufcient power to positively insure keeping said yarn or warp taut at all times, and which means will now be described. yarn-beam C and have weights E2 E2 attached Y' to their lower ends, which serve to produce a back-draft upon the lease-rods, in an opposite direction to the movement of the yarn, and therefore, keeps the latter constantly taut. Said tension, it is obvious, regulated as desired, by increasing creasing the size of said weights.

or de- The loops may be E' E of straps E E, as will be seen, are arranged to slide on the rods F F, and are in their normal positions when near the back end of said rods, as is shown in Fig. l, therefore allowing of considerable forward, yielding movement of the lease-rods D D', when the yarn unduly draws upon the same, if retarded in any way. The lease-rods may be fastened laterally in the weighted straps by means of rivets a, at each side thereof, and longitudinally by a leather cord or rod b, passed through openings in the ends ot' said lease-rods, outside of the straps and attached to said straps, as shown, or in any other convenient manner. In this instance, I have shown each Weighted strap as being provided with a short piece E of leather riveted thereto, between the lease-rods, and provided with a hole in its outer end to receive one of the supporting rods F, upon which it slides; but, as various similar ways might be adopted in practice to accomplish the same result, I do not limit myself thereto. My invention, as will be observed, is simple, durable and inexpensive in construction; and I ind, by the application thereof to practice, that the yarn is much less liable to become snarled or broken than by theuse of other devices of this nature of which I have knowledge, and consequently the cloth when Woven is of a uniform and even texture, and almost entirely free from the usualimperfections caused in weaving. ,/f/
