To all whom t may concern.-

Be it known that I, CHARLES M. GARFIELD, of Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Cigar-Moistening Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a box or case for cigars having a small and inexpensive moistening attachment, and the object of my invention is to provide moistening apparatus for cigar show or wall cases and which is particularly adaptable for use in the small boxes in which cigars are packed or stored.

To this end my invention consists inv general in the constructions and combinations hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims and will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying y drawings forming a part of this specification,"

As shown in the drawings, 2 may represent any case, such as a cigar box or show case, and 3 a perforated plate, forming the whole or a part of the bottom thereof, and which may be ot' either wood or metal of any desired thickness. Between this perforated or false bottom 3 and the bottom 4 I arrange one or more thicknesses of ordinary blotting paper 5 and in any convenient position thereon provide thesmall tank 6 adapted to contain a considerable quantity of water or other liquid, which may be used for moistening or iiavoring the cigars or tobacco. This box or tank is provided with one or more openings 7 of considerable size and closed only by the blotting pad pressed firmly thereon by engagement with the bottom of the box. To permit ready access to the tank for filling the same I provide a small lid 8 opposite an opening in the bottom or wall of the box, which may be opened when the tank is turned over and the blotting paper removed so that the tank may be refilled. I have found that the blotting pad pressed closely against the side of the tank eectually prevents the leakage of the water except as taken up by the capillary attraction of the blotting pad and that the pad will be thoroughly saturated throughout. The pad being moist the small circulation of air through the perforations in the bottom carries the moisture into contact with the cigars.

It is obvious thatmy invention permits of many modifications over the form shown and described and I therefore' do not confine myself strictly thereto.V

Having thus described my invention, I claim asn'w and desire to secure by Letters Patent lf The combination, with the liquid tank or reservoir provided. with an opening, of an air or storage chamber adjacent to said reservoir, a pad of blotting paper or like material, means for pressing the same over said opening,'said pad extending therefrom into said air or storage chamber, substantially as described.

2. The combination, with the case or box, of a tank or reservoir for liquid and provided with an outlet opening, a pad 'of blotting paper or like material pressed over said opening and extending into said case or box, and means for ready access to said tank to fill the same, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

3. The combination, with the box or case provided with the perforated partition, of a pad of blotting paper or like material arranged beneath said partition, and a tank or reservoir provided with an opening closed by contact with said pad, substantially as de- CHARLES M. GARFIELD.
