To @ZZ whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that we, FRANZ OTTO, watchmaker, and CARL OTTO, upholsterer, of Zerbst,
lin the Kingdom of Prussia and German E1nin Canada, No. 43,444, dated March 6, 1893.
This invention relates to an adjustable support for curtain rods and blind rollers, illustrated in Figures 1 to 3, of which- Fig. 1 is a section through a window furnished with the above device. Fig. 2 is adetail drawing of the rod supports with the fixing device for the rod; and Fig. 3 is a general view of the arrangement of the rods.
Now the present invention has for its object when employed for fixing curtains to obviate damaging the walls and wall-papers by avoiding the knocking in of the iron hooks, dac., (heretofore usually employed) next to or over the windows and doors so that drawing out of such hooks when moving Or otherwise making changes is thus rendered unnecessary. The present arrangementnow consists of two bent arms or angles c o which are fastened to the window frame by the screws g g and are partly bent in an inclined direction into the window niches and are partly carried parallel to and close along the wall. Just above the bend Or knee of the rod a. there is arranged a horizontal rod b which is connected to the rod a by means of two nuts ff and the clamp c in such a manner as to allow of shifting in an upward and downward direction or a slight forward or rearward screwing of the rod l). The latter en gages with its other downwardly bent end c, in the eye or ring on a screw d to be fixed in the window frame so that in combination with the fixing of the rod a by means of the two screws g g the whole framing is stayed in a rigid and iirm manner. On that part of the rod a which is parallel to the wall there are arranged two movable clamps 7o and m adapted to be easily screwed fast `by means of pinching screws Z and o respectively and the lower one k is formed with a hole for the reception of the curtain pull rod and the upper one m is furnished with an upwardly bent hook n for fixing the curtain cornices or moldings. A clamp or sleeve h quite similar to those aforesaid is movably fixed on the rod b, it is provided with the thumb screw t' and serves to receive the rod for the blind roller. The same construction may also be employed in mounting curtain rods (for curtains or portieres on or in front of doors) with the difference that in this case the rod a and the screw ring dof the rod b are screwed at the left hand or right hand within the door frame instead of into the window frame.
What we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
An adjustable support for curtains and the like consisting of the rod a, having the vertical and inclined portions, fastening means located at the foot of the inclined portion, a horizontal rod having one end provided with fastening means, jam nuts mounted upon the other end of the horizontal rod for clamping the vertical portion of the rod a, and vertically adjustable supporting devioes carried upon said vertical portion, substantially as described.
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands in presence oftwo witnesses.
