IMPLEMENT FOR ST RAIGHTENING RAILS, BARS, 80G.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 519,920, dated May 15, 1894.

To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, ALFONGS MEUsER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Longwood, in the county of Orange and State of Florida, have invented a certain new, useful, and valuable Improvement in Implements for Straightening Rails, Bars, &c., of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention has relation to implements for straightening rails, bars, 850., but it is especially adapted to take depressions out of railroad rails.
It consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawingsz-Figure 1, is a side view of my invention. Fig. 2, is an edge view of the invention partly in section.
The device consists of an arch 1, which has in its center an enlargement 2, which is pro- .Vided with a perpendicular perforation. The ends of the arch are adapted to bear against the rail and they are grooved for that purpose as shown in Fig. 2. The said arch is adapted to push against the rail and for convenience the ends will be termed pushers hereinafter. The enlargement 2, is provided on one side with a handle 3, and on the other side with a brace 4, which is adapted to extend across a railroad track and bear on the opposite railas shown in Fig. 2. The threaded end 5, of the pull 6, extends up through the perforation in the enlargement 2. The lower end of the said pullis bifurcated (see Fig. 2), one branch adapted to extend down on each side of the rail 7. Each branch is provided with a perforation 8, which will extend below the rail. A cross piece 9, extends under the said rail and is lodged in the perforations 8. Thus the lower end of the pull 6, surrounds the rail when in operation. The upper threaded end 5, of the pull 6, works in the thread ed perforation of the collar 10, said collar rests on top of the arch or pushers 1. The saidcollar is provided with a number of sockets 11, which are adapted to holdthe ends of the handles 12, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1. Said collar is adapted to be revolved when the power is applied to the handles and said collar and attachments form a lever. The point of contact between the collar and the enlargement 2, is the fulcrum, the pull is the weight and the power is applied to the handles.
To operate my invention it is placed in position on the rail or bar to be straightened as shown in the drawings. The bar 9, is placed under the depression in the rail and then the collar 7, is revolved which raises the pull which in turn brings the rail up and straightens it.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. An implement for straightening rails, bars, 850., consisting of a single piece of metal arched in shape and having a perforation in its middle, the two ends'of the arch forming pushers adapted to bear against the object to be straightened; a pull, its upper end passing through the perforation in the arch, the lower end of said pull having an integral bifurcation, each branch of said bifurcation having a perforation; a cross piece adapted to rest in the perforations of said branches, said branches and cross piece adapted to surround the object to be straightened; a lever fulcrumed on top of the arch and operating the pull, as set forth.
2.
