UNITED STATES PATENT Trice.
HAMILTON E. SMITH, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
PORTABLE GAS OR PETROLEUM COOK-STOVE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 51,976, dated January 9, 1866.
To all whom it may conce/rn:
Be it known that I, HAMILTON E. SMITH, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Portable Stove; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompan yin g drawings, making` part ot' this specification.
My invention relates to a form of portable cooking apparatus adapted for the employment ot'petroleum or other burning-duid, or of common street-gas, the same comprising an arrangement for optional baking or boiling by the use of the same burners, combined with equal baking action at all parts ot' the oven.
Figure l is a perspective view of a stove in condition for boiling and slow baking. Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof in condition for active and effective baking.
A is a cast-iron or other metallic table or stand, having in its ltop B two circular apertures, C C', and two oblong apertures or slots, D D'.
E E' are two rails, secured horizontally to' mediately over the inner ends of the slots or` oblong apertures D D'.
I I' are two boiling-vessels, which rest upon the table A immediately over the outer ends of the slots I) D'.
The outer lamps, F" and F'", are capable of being shifted along the rails E E', so as either to heat the boilers I and I', or so as to discharge their gases into the side i'lues, H and H', and thence into the upper part ot' the oven. The effect of the side flues, H H', when thus brought into communication with the lamps F" and F'", is to dry up the vapors which arise from the viands in the act of cooking, and to cause them to be equally baked above as well as below and on all sides.
It is intended to use petroleum or coal-oil in the lamps; but alcohol or othersuitable burin ing-Huid may be employed.
I couvert this apparatus to use with ordinary street-gas by simply withdrawing lamps F F' i F" F'" and applying as many ordinary gasbrackets. (See red lines fj"f"f"'.)
I claim herein as new and of my inventionl. The arrangement of a series of lamps or burners, ot' which part are shittable, in the described combination with an oven, G, having side tlues, H H', discharging into its upper part, and one or more heat-inlets, C C', at its lower part, for the purposes set forth.
2. The arrangement of stand A and its described accessories, adapted for optional baking or boiling, and for conversion to the use of movable lamps or ordinary gas-burners, in the manner set forth. C
In testimony of' which invention I hereunto set my hand.
HAMILTON E. SMITH.
