' Of the drawings-Figurel is a side view of my invention represented as in position on thefheadof a person,'the air tubesreaching tbthe floor upon which the person stands} Fig.2 is' a verticalsectional view drawn to an enlarged scale, of the invention represented in position on the head of a person. "Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the inner crown piede.
'- material. r
bdesignates an interior crown piece lined 'w1thfelt -or other soft material so as-that it the drawings a designates the outer shell whlch may be. of metaL apiermach treated so as to be fire proof,-.or any other suitable may rest easilyupon the head of the wearer.
Thesaid crown piece is made so as to fit the npperpart of the head of the wearer, and
hold'the outeishell din position around the .head without touching thesame. This crownpiece is in the form of an limperforatecom.
caved disk or plate, and is-adapted to com- I pletelycover the top of the head and protect it.
'As shown herein the crown; piece 1) consists of a'skeleton'. frame 0 madeof wire 51' other material with projecting ends of the wire frame bent upward vertically'a's at'dso as that they may fit in 'socketse connected with the interior of I the shell 0., and so maintain the crown piece in position with a space fbe-Q tween the same, and the outer shelh: By this provision opportunity is givenfor ventilation between the crown piece and outer shell, and the latter should it become heated to an un- Qtact with the head of t e wearer,
g designates a window arranged inthe outer shell opposite the eyes of thewearer, and provided with a sheet of mica or other transpardue extent will not be brought indirect con- 1 out material which will not be detrimentally .efiected by moderate heat. The frameof the window g is preferably hinged to the outer casing a so as that it may be opened when desired or necessary, and thus afford means the window, and also to admit of unrestricted breathing space in case of necessity, without removing the mask from the head.
r h designates pipes which communicate Withthe interior of the outer casing at each side of the same, and preferably opposite the nos- 'trils of the wearer as at t, Fig. 3. The said fioorso as that air may be taken into the easfing from a point-where there is not likely to be smoke or noxious gases. The said pipes may be strapped to the body andlegs of the from the casing.
j designates a=fiexib1e skirt attached to the lower edge of the 'outer casing and provided witha' draw string 70 so as that it may be tied pipes h extend from the outer casing to the wearer as shown, or they may hang loosely closely around the neck of 'the wearer as 1 for wiping perspiration or soot or dust froui shownin Fig. 3 to prevent smoke orgases from entering the mask at the neck.
