Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
IMPROVED REMEDY FOR SORE EYES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 51,868, dated January 2, 1866.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, AUGUSTE SoHUsTER, of the city and county of St. Louis, and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Remedy against Inflamed or Sore Eyes; and I' do hereby declare that the following is a full and clear description of the same, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use my improved remedy.
I take of sulphate of zinc one-half ounce, of the finest powdered sugar one-half ounce, and eight cloves, finely pulverized. These ingredients should be made as fine as possible and mixed together well, then placed in a quarterpint bottle, and one-half ounce spiritus formicarum and as much distilled rose-water as will fill the remainder of the quarter-pint bottle added, and the whole compound well mixed by shaking.
During the summer season the mixture should be placed in the sunshine to distill or ferment, and during the winter season it may be placed on sand near a hot stove for several days, which will answer the same purpose as exposing it to the rays of the sun in the summer season. After several days fermentation, as aforesaid, the mixture must be filtered, when it will be ready for use.
The compound maybe made in larger quantities by observing the same proportions as are herein specified.
Of the above mixture about one drop should be applied to the diseased eye as often as oocasion may require-say three times a day.
Having described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
A remedy for sore or inflamed eyes composed of the ingredients herein mentioned, as and in the proportions specified, or their chemical equivalents.
AUGUSTE SOHUSTER.
