Description
E B W E N W H v SHOCK COMPRESSOR.
Patented Apr. 17, 18 94.
TATES- O'C-KFO0M PR asset.
srnczrroa'rrou forming pe/rtof Letters Patent Nb; 518,350, dataa n 1.7, rat-54;, Application filed 1m 18, 1894, Serial in. 497, 14. um
' To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EZRA WALTER NEW? BERRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lane, in the county of Franklin and State of Kansas;have invented certain new and use f ul Improvein outs in Shock-Compressors; and
I do declare theifollowin-g to be a full, clear,
and exact description of the invention, suchas will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being hadto the accompanying drawings,
. and to the letters of reference marked there- 'facture, theshockers can be repeatedly used.
from year'to year. In my invention, I employa metallicrod with lateral projectingvarms-with their ends bent, which is thrust into theshock, a wire, with a series of links secnred'to one end, is placed over a hooked projection of the aforesaid rod, and by means of a handbook, the wire is passed around the ishock, and -the wire drawn, to compress the 'shock, and-;t he hooked end of the wire is secured into any notch to. hold the shock'in a compressed statorv 'My invention.'cons1sts further in the novelconstruction-and adaptation of the parts as will be hereinafiter more fully described and then specifically. defined in the appended claim. 2
I clearly illustrate my invention in the an-- nexed drawingawhich form a part of this specification, and inwhich like letters of refence indicate like parts throughout the several views, in'lwhich-+.-
Figure 1, represents a perspective view of a shock of ,boumltby my adjustable shocking.dpviee.-s Fig.3; is a detail view of tallic rod of any convenient length, having the rodwh-ichentersthe shock; Fig. 3 a detail of the wire and'links of ,the binding strip, and Fig. 4 aview in! the hand hook for tightening the'wire. I
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A, represents a. me-
two lateral projecting arms-B, their free ends bent, as at b, b, so asto' bdparallel'With the rod A, to'more securely hold the ,rod; against, a lateral pressure, and theend C 'is" bent to. formahook. "j f I D is a wire several feet in length, provided at one end as at E with a hook e, its other endjoined-toa seriesof links RF, and G is a hand hook for tightening the wire about the shock.
vThe application ofr my compressor is as fol- I lows :first the bar or rod A is thrust into the shock so that the downwardly inclined ends b of the lateral arms B, will engage with the grain to be shocked, and. prevent the rod from turning about; the endof the wire, carrying. the hook e is hooked into the hand hook G, the linkend of the wire looped over the bent end 0 of the rod A, the wire passed around the shock, and when the shock is suf-' ficiently compressed, the hook e. is caught into any convenient link, and the I shock is.
held in a compressedcondition until the wire is removed, 1
'The'wire compressors present great advantages over cords which are ordinarily used for the purpose of binding, and which are apt to wear 'and break. I I I Having thus degcribed my invention, what I claim to be new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a shook compressor 'as described, the combination of a metallic rod havinglateral extending arms with bent ends 1) parallel with-'- the rod A for engagement with a shock of a grain, and a wire composed of one long piece,
and a series of links, of a hook carried by the end-of the long part of the binding wire, the link end of the binding strip adapted to be looped over a hooked portion C, the said hindving-wire to be passed around the shock, by
means of a hand hook, and the hook e engaged-in a link portion of the binding strip, substantially as shown'and described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
