UNITED STATES GEORGE A. MORFOOT, OF CHICAGO,
ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HAL To JosEPH EoBLisr-r, or SAME PLAcE.
HIGH CHAIR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 518,070, dated April 10, -1 894.
A Application filed January 27, 1394.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. Monroo'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in High Chairs; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to infants high chairs.
Its object is to provide means for conveniently and securely holding the guard and table for preventing the child from falling from the chair. u
My invention consists of the use of a jointed slide bar carried in ways under the chair seat and supporting the table by means of an upwardly projecting arrn, together with means for locking the sliding bar.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l, is a plan View of my chair. Fig. 2, is a vertical longitudinal section on the line 2-2 of Fig. l. Fig. 3,`is a front elevation ot'V a port-ion of the chair, and Fig. 4., is a detail of the table and its support.
The standard or frame of the chair, is shown at A; its body at B, and seat at C. The guard, or table, is of any desired shape, if of sufficient width to practically close the space between the chair arms, and is indicated at D. A rigid arm, E, supports this Vtable and projecting downwardly is mortised into a slide bar, F, which extends beneath the chair seat, the tenon, e, of the arm, E, projecting through the bar, F, as shown. The slide bar, F, is carried by parallel ways, I, secured to the under side of the chair bottom, C, from front to rear, and having their adjacent sides grooved, the edges of the bar, F, being correspondingly Serial No. 498,216. (No model.)
dicated at f, for vertical tlexure. Stop bars, K, L, are secured to the ways, and a pin, M,
is set in the bar, F, so as to play between them and limit the forward and backward movement of the slide bar. A-spring catch,
G, is pivotally secured to the end of the tenon, e, as shown at Z, and is held by the spring, g, so that its inner end is forced toward the slide bar, F. The inner end oi' this catch is provided with a longitudinal series of holes, o, o, adaptedlto engage a downwardly projecting pin, N, set in the forward crossbar, K, and rmlylock the slide bar. The holes, o, being several in number, admit of the adjustment of the bar as may be desired, the table, D, being correspondingly adjusted with reference to the body of the chair.
In use the spring catch is loosened, the'table drawn forward and turned downwardly to the position shown in Fig. 4, and after the child has been placed in the chair, the table is raised and slid in as may be desired, and locked by means of the catch; the joint, f, be-
ing carried between the ways, the slide bar,
F, is prevented from exure, and the table is held securely in place.
I claim as my invention-- .In a childs high chair the combination with the chair, of guide ways secured to the under side of the seat, a vertically jointed slide bar running in said ways, an upwardly projecting arm, E, rigidlysecured to the slide bar, a table D, carried by the arm E, and adapted to close the space between the chair arms, and a spring catch for locking the slide bar into the ways, substantially as described and fo the purpose specified. l
lIn testimony whereof I aftix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE A. MORFOOT. Witnesses:
Louis K. GILLsoN, SPENCER WARD.
