Description

and Boilers,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES EHRLIOHER, OF WATERTOWN, YORK.
COVERING FOR PIPES-AND BOILERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 517,852, dated April 10, 1894.
Application filed December 14, 1893. Serial No. 493.707. (Specimens) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES EHRLICHER, of Watertown, in the county of Jefferson and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Coverings for Pipes of which the followingisaspecification.
My invention relates to an improvement in coverings for pipes and boilers,,said coverings consisting of fibrous talc, and asbestus, either with or without a small amount of hair.
In preparing the covering, I mix together in water the tale, hair and asbestus in the proportion of about seventy-five per cent. of
fibrous talc to five per cent. of hair and twenty per cent. of asbestus. When these have been thoroughly mixed together in the water, they are pressed into sheet form afterthe well known manner of paper making, the result being a flexible sheet of material which is found to be a very' poor conductor of heat and fire proof and hence highly advantageous in protecting pipes and boilers against loss of heat through their walls. It is also a durable covering, capable of remaining for a very long I time, either under ground or exposed to the water without suffering harm from the elements. 7
I do not wish to limit myself strictly to the percentages of the different elements hereinbefore set forth, as the proportions may be varied somewhat to suit the difierent qualities of the materials employed and also to suit the particular use to which the covering is put.
It has been found practically feasible to mix the fibrous talc and asbestns in the pro portion of about eighty per cent. of fibrous talc and twenty per cent. of asbestus, without the introduction of the hair.
What I claim is- The covering for pipes and boilers, consisting of a flexible sheet composed of fibrous talc and asbestus in the proportions substantially as set forth.
CHARLES EHRLIOI-IER.
