106. COMPOS COATING OR PLASTIC.
ITIONS,
. UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES EHRLIOHER, oF' WATERTOWN, NEW-YORK.
LAGGING FOR BOILERS AND PlPE S.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 517,850, dated April 10, 1894.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES EHRLICHER, of Watertown, in the county of J eiferson and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lagging for Boilers and Pipes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in lagging for boilers and pipes, consisting of a plastic mixture of fibrous talc and hair, having incorporated therewith soluble glass.
In preparing the lagging, I mix the fibrous talc, and hair in the proportion of ninety pounds of tale to ten pounds of hair and then add to an oroughly mix wit e ale and hair a soluble lass using suflicient water to bring i5 e mixture into a plastic state of the proper consistency to be spread upon the boiler or pipe with a trowel after the manner of plaster.
The mixture may be made in the same manner as mortar is commonly made, by mixing together the several ingredients in the presence of a sufiicient amount of water to render the mass easily worked.
Application filed December 14,1893- Serial No. 493.705- (1% specimens.)
While I have given the proportions of the tale and hair as ninety pounds of the former to ten pounds of the latter, I do not wish to limit myself strictly to these proportions as I find it advantageous to vary them somewhat 3o I in practice according to the quality of the materials employed. Thus for example, if the fibrous property of the talc is prominent, a Iess proportion of hair may be employed than where the fibrous property of the tale is less prominent and on the other hand, oif the hair employed is long and strong, a less quantity of the hair may be employed than where it is shorter and brittle.
What I claim is- Lagging for boilers and pipes composed of a mixture of M19, and. soluble glassin the proportions substantially as set forth.
" OHARLES EHRLICHER."
