SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 516,844, dated March 2 0, 1894. Application filed April 3, 1893- Serial No. 468,764. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-.

Be it known that I, ALFRED SWAN, a subj ect of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Schenectady, county of Schenectady, State of New York, have invented'a certain new and useful Improvement in Lamp Sockets, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to lamp sockets and has for its object to provide a lamp socket mplded in a single piece and having the contact portions and the threaded tube for the insertion of the lamp molded in the body of the socket, by which a compact form of socket is provided from which the connections are not liable to become detached, and by which accidental contact therewith is prevented.

The accompanying. drawings show an embodiment of my invention, Figure 1, representing a sectional view of the lamp socket made according thereto. Fig. 2 shows a modification.

A is the base, which I prefer to make of the vitreous material known in the trade as porcelite, but which also may be made of any other vitreous material, not requiring so high a heat in baking as to fuse the stampings hereinafter referred to.

B is the screw thread of the socket made in brass and forming one of the terminals of the lamp.

C C are small brass stampings provided at their outer ends with screws D D, by which contact is made with the line Wires in the usual manner; one of the stampings is secured to the brassshell B and joined thereto in any suitable wayto make good electrical connection; the other one is provided at its inner extremity with a hole F through which a screw may be passed into the hollowed-out socket E, to secure the lamp socket to a proper support.

I find it convenient to mold'two forms of ring to be passed over the thread and secured thereto, while the form shown in Fig. 2 is adapted for the insertion of the lamp without a shade.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and wish to protect by Letters Patent ot the United States, is-

1. As an article of manufacture, a socket for an incandescent lamp molded in a single pieceinclosing two stampings, as C C, and a screw threaded brass piece as B, one of the stampings C being connected to the screw threaded piece B forming one terminal for the lamp and the other piece C being provided at its inner end with an aperture F adapted to permit the passage of a screw, and forming the second terminal of the lamp, substantially as described.

2; As an article of manufacture, a socket for an incandescent lamp molded in a single piece inclosing within the molded material two stampings C C provided at their outer ends with contact screws D D, one stamping making electrical connections with the screw thread B of the lamp socket and the other forming a central contact and provided with an opening'F adapted to permit the passage of a fastening screw; the molded material completely surrounding the socket piece B.
