DAVID B. COX, OF TROY, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO COX, CHURCH 8U CO.,
OF SAME PLACE.
BsE-BURNING CoAL-sTovE.
Specilication forming part of Letters Patent No. 51,6419, dated December 19, 1865.
To all 'whom it mag/vconcem:
Be it known that I, DAVID B. COX, of the Y city of Troy,in the county of Rensselaer, in the State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Magazine Coal-Stoves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference made thereon.
Figure l shows a vertical section ofthe stove,
full charged with coal. Fig. 2 shows a perspective view of the removable magazine. Fig. 3 is perspective View of air-chamber, wit-h magazine detached.
The space A is the ash-pit, above which is the grate N, and above that is the fire-box B, and suspended over the tire-box is the removable magazine or reservoir C, which contains the reservedcoahand from which itis supplied to the tire-box below as fast as the same is consumed by combustion in the tire-box B.
To preventthe reserved coal from igniting in its chamber the magazine is provided with the cover I, which is to be tightly fitted to its place after filling the magazine with coal.
Connected with the magazine, and with the upper ends open, are two tubes, D D, passing down on the outside of the magazine to the airchamber G at the lower end of magazine.
The air-chamber Cr when made of cast-iron is constructed 1n two parts, and when put together leaves a cavity' between (see H) which encireles the lower end of magazine, the outer'- portion of which is perforated, making a series of holes, more or less, so that fresh air isbrought down through the tubes D D into said cavity or chamber, and is ushered through said perforatons into the chamber O O for the purpose ofigniting theintlammable gases evolving from the burning coals.
The magazine C, with the tubes D D and air-chamber G being so connected as to make a whole, is independent ofthe stove, and may be lifted out at pleasure and thestove used without the magazine, if and when desired.
What I cla-im, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The removable magazine C, in combination with the air-chamber G at its lower end, substantially as and for the purposes set forth. 2. The chamber Gr, with its perforations, in combination with the tubes D D or equivalents, substantially as set forth.
DAVID B. COX.
