.To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOHN P. BANKER, of Honey Grove, in the county of Fannin and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Quilting-Frame, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention relates to quilting frames in whlch a track is provided from which the quilting frame proper is suspended, and in connection with which means are provided for tilting the track to facilitate running the frame longitudinally in both directions on the track.

The presentimprovements include a novel means of supporting and tilting the track, and also other features as hereinafter particularly described and defined in the claims.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the figures.

Figure l is a front elevation of a quilting frame embodying my improvements; and Fig. 2 is a sectional end elevation.

In constructing a quilting frame in accordance with my invention a support is provided constructed as follows: To a base A, a standard B is secured, the base extending both in front and behind the standard and the latter is braced by a single brace a which extends from the front'end of the baseA to about the center of height of the standard, and by a double brace b, b, the members of which are united to the standard nearits upper end and converge laterally at the sides of the standard B to a level with the bottom of the base, for steadying thestructure againstsidewise movement. To the top of the standard B is secured a horizontal arm 0 which extends forwardly and supports nearits outer end a post D which is formed integral with the arm 0 or secured thereto as desired. To completethe frame and. strengthen the same, a pair of braces E is secured one at each side of the standard and these braces extend from the base A across the standard B and the horizontal arm 0 to the post D and are secured to the said base, standard, arm and post by screws cor the like, thereby effectively bracing all of the said parts.

The front end of the arm 0 extends beyond the post D and forms a block F, which block has its upper surface reduced from the center toward each side, and above the block the normally horizontal track G is supported as follows: Through an orifice g, in the said track passes a stud, bolt or screw g, which engages the post D, and the orifice g is sufficiently larger than the stud g, to permit the track G, to rest on the block F while capable of pivotal movement on the said stud. Thus the block F relieves the stud of strain while'permitting a pivotal movement of the track to tilt the same to the rightor left. To the track G, near its ends are secured the respective ends of awire g which extends upwardly and is given two or more turns around a drum G, the drum being mounted on a shaft 9 journaled in the post D. The shaft g has a wheel g provided with a handle 9 by which the drum G is rotated in either direction, and the drum has a flange 9 formed with a circular series of holes 9 into any one of which a locking pin g may be inserted, said pin being fitted to move longitudinally of its axis in the post D. By rotating the drum G the wire g which leaves the drum from opposite sides, is caused to tilt the track in either direction and at the required angle, so that the wire performs the double function of a brace and a means of tilting the track.

The quilting frame H, is made up of the side bars h, h, in which the rollers h, are journaled, the posts or standards It that are erected on the side bars, and the beam k which is secured to the standards h and ranges longitudinally of theframe above the rollers h. Each roller h is provided at its ends with flanges or disks h", having a circular series of apertures b and in fixed parts of the frame, adjacent to such flanges locking pins h are fitted, and are adapted to enter the apertures of the flanges for locking the rollers in the adjusted position. The frame H is adapted to be suspended from the track G, by meansof a hanger I, which at its lower end is swiveled to the beam h and carries at its upper end a grooved roller or wheel a", which rides on the said track. By tilting the track G, the quilting frame H may be moved in either direction for facilitating quilting back and forth from end to end of the frame. It will be observed that the track G is formed with two ribs 9 on its upper surface,

and it may be removed and reversed to bring the inner track to the outside when the outer one has become worn.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. The combination with a quilting frame, of a track supported at about its center and capable of a rocking movement on its support, substantially as described.

2. The combination with the traveling quiltof a supported track, means for mechanically tilting the track, and means for locking the track in the tilted position, substantially as described.

3. The combination with the quilting frame, of a support, and a track rail pivoted at about its center to the support, substantially as described.

4. The combination of a quilting frame, and a support therefor consisting of a base, a standard on said base, a forwardly extending arm supported from said standard, a post on the arm, a track having support from said post, and braces ranging diagonally from the post to the base, across the horizontal arm and the standard, substantially as described. 5. The combination with a quilting frame having a hanger for suspendingit, of a track pivoted at about its center,a drum, and flexible connections between the drum and the track for tilting the latter when the drum is rotated, substantially as described.

6. The combination with a quilting frame, of a supporting track therefor pivoted at about its center, a drum, means for locking the drum, a wire wound around the drum, extending in opposite directions from thelatter and connected with the track, substantially as described.

7. The combination with a quilting frame, of a supporting track therefor, pivoted to a frame or support and a block below the track, the track having a loose engagement with its pivot to permit it to rest on said block, substantially as described.

8. The reversible track, pivotally mounted and formed with two parallel ribs on its up per surface, in combination with a support therefor, and a quilting frame suspended from the track substantially as described.
