WATER-BOX OF GRlNDlNG-WH EELS.
SPECIFICATIQN formingpart of Letters Patent NO. 516,353, dated March 13, 1894. Application filed September 19, 1893. Serial No. 485,786. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANCIS M. KING, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pen nsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Water Boxes of Grinding- Wheels, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists in providing the box of an emery or other grinding wheel with novel means for adjusting the level of the water therein, whereby the wheel may be readily supplied with water, or deprived of the same according to requirements. 7
Figure 1 representsa perspective view of a grinding device with a water box embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents alongitudina] vertical section thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.
Referring to the drawings: A designates a water box, and B designates the pedestals on which is mounted the shaft 0 of the emery wheel D.
ltlsing from and secured to the said pedestals, is an arm E, on which is supported the guard F of the Wheel. The rear wall G of said guard is segmental, as is also the bottom wall of the box A, as at H, said portions thus forming the passage J, which communicates with said'box and in which is fitted the plug K, which is adapted to be moved in'said passage, so as to be lowered into the box A, and raised'therefrom for adjusting the height of water therein, so as to supply the wheel D with water or deprive it of the same accord ing to requirements.
At the front part of the box is a reservoir L, which is adapted to contain water or other fluid into which tools may be dipped during dry grinding.
' It will be seen that when the plug K is low ered, it enters the water in the box, and displacing the same, causes it to rise, so that the wheel D dips into the same, and is supplied with water to the extent or level regulated by said plug. When the work is accomplished,
the plug is raised, whereby the Water is low- I claim as new, and desire to secure by'Letters Patent, is
1. A water box of a grinding wheel having a wheel guard with a rear wall forming a passage between it and the bottom wall of the box,'a plug movable in said passage, and means for retaining said plug in place, said parts being combined substantially as described.
2. A water box of a grinding wheel, awheel guard having a rear wall forming a passage with the bottom wall of the said box, and a plug fitting in said passage, said parts combined substantially as described.
3. A water box of a grinding wheel having a segmental bottom wall, a wheel guard having a rear wall forming a passage way with said segmental bottom wall, a movable plug fitting in said passage-way, and a catch hearing against said plug, said parts being combined substantially as described.
