Patented Feb. 27
UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.
IIENRY KAPPELE, OF MATTEAWAN, NEW YORK.
DOOR-FASTENER SPECIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 515,494, dated February 27, 1894.
Appliceton filetl October 18, 1893. Saria1No. 488,491- (No model.)
Be i1: known that I, HENRY KAPPELE, of Matteawan, Dutchess county,New York, h2we nvented an Improved Deer Fastener, of wheh the following is a specificaton.
This invention re1ates to a door-fastener to be used for fastening a door from the inside and whieh pessesses verymarked advantages over 'che ordinary sliding belt in general use.
In the accompanying drawings: Fignre 1 is a perspeetve view showing my improved door fastener in use. Fig. 2 is an end view of the fastener and Fig. 3 a face view of the same.
The letter a represents a plate adapted. to be fastened t0 he d001 frame A, by means of serews a, 01 otherwise. The plate a, is pr0- vided naar its inner edge wth the 1ugs a 1:0 Which there is pivoted a stop b,provded with a forwardly projeeting hook 1). The stop b, may be swung forward across the faee of the dom B (Fig. 1) 01 backward across the plate a, 50 as to clear the door (dotted lines Fig. 2). The plate a is preferably at 01 near ts center provided with a second pair of 1ugs (1 to whehthere is pivoted a finger 0. This finger is of a length to projeet beyond the edge of plate a, and to engage the stop b, in front of heek b, when the fastener is clused.
to be torn from its seat.
T0 fasten the door is only necessary t0 swing the stop 5, across the face of the door, and the finger c, into engagement with the stop (Fig. 1). T0 unfasten the door, the finget a, is firsb swung 'orward t0 release the stop and then the stop is swung forward to release the door (dotted lines Fig. 2).
The advantages eonneeted with this fastener are numerous: Any pressure up0n the outside of the door wi1l cause the pivoted end of finger c, t0 press more firmly upon the plate a, and thus the fastener will not be apt Moreover the fastener needs no staple, is readily fitted and Inanipulated and is noiseless in nee. 11; is we1l adapted fox hotels and also for private dwell- 1ngs.
What I.claixn is The ccmbination 0f a fase pate wth ahookshaped stop pivoted thereto, and with a finger pivoted to the fase plate back of the stop and adapted to be projected over the edge of the face plate and into engagement With 'che stop, substantialy as speeified.
HENRY KAPPELE.
