SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 514,897, dated February 20, 1894.
Application filed July 1,1893. Serial No. 479,354. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE CHARLES BATE- MAN, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing in the city and county of Halifax, in the Province of Novia Scotia, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Billiard-Markers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
My invention relates to devices for indicating the number of points made by a player in a game of billiards, or the like.
The object of my invention is to improve a device for which I obtained Letters Patent No. 451,993, dated May 12,1891, so that either dial may be returned to zero Without interfering with the other.
' In the drawings, Figure l is a view of my device, the cover being removed. Fig. 2 is an enlarged section of the units dial.
I will first enumerate the parts that are shown in my former patent.
A is the shallow casing, having glazed apertures through which one of the numerals on each dial may be seen.
0, C are the toothed dials journaledin the said casing the dial 0 carrying on its face the numerals representing units and the dial 0 the numerals representing the tens.
c, and o are the teeth on the said wheels, D, D are levers projecting through the casing operating the levers E E carrying the dogs F, F, which engage the teeth 0 c of the dials 0, O Gand G are detent pawls holding the dials.
On the axles of each of the dials O C are formed toothed disks H H a portion of each being cut away at h. Two levers J J are fulcrumed on pins 9', and are provided with segmental racks 7' adapted to engage the toothed disks I-I, H The lower parts of these levers project into the semi-cylindrical casing A and are provided with slots 3' The device as far as described is practically the same as that covered by my former patent. The slots 7' of the levers J J 2 are engaged by pins 7t on slides K,K" sliding in the casing A springs 7& it being inserted to press out the slides after being operated, the said springs pressing against a block A formed integrally with the casing A In the dial 0 is formed a chamber M in which slides a catch N. This catch projects sufliciently to engage one of the teeth c ot the tens dial and so moves it one numeral every revolution, a spring it keeps the catch in the projected position. At the tail end of the catch is formed a projection n projecting through a slot 0 formed close to the toothed dial H.
The operation of the device is as follows. The levers D and D operate the dials in the same manner as in my former device, the sliding catch N taking the place of the permanent catch. The dials are returned to zero by means of the slides K K operating the le- Vers J J which engage the toothed disks I-I,
H The lever J when it is operated pushes back the slide N by engaging the projection 02 and prevents the catch from engaging the teeth 0 of the dial 0 thus it will be seen that the units dial may be operated independently of the tens dial.
I claim as my invention-- The combination in a billiard marker with the units dial 0, of the chamber M, catch N, sliding in the said chamber and adapted to engage the teeth of the tens dial, the spring 41, the projection n projecting through a slot 0 and adapted to be engaged by the lever J, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
