This invention relates to animproved sad- 1c dle for bicycles, which comprises an open main-frame bent in the shape of the saddle from a steel rod, an elastic air cushion havlug an opening in its middle part, a flanged annular support for the middle portion, an
' auxiliary frame attached to the front and rear ends of the main frame and adapted to support the center-cone, and a covering of leather or other suitable material that extends around the elastic air-cushion and retains the same in place on the main-frame.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1, represents a perspective bottom-view of my improved saddle for bicycles. Fig. 2, is a vertical longitudinal section on line 2 2, Fig. 2 5 3, and Fig. 3, is a vertical transverse section on line 3 3, Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawings A represents an 0 open main-frame, which is preferably made of a steel-rod which is bent so as to correspond in shape to the outline of a saddle ofabicycle. On the open main-frame A issupported an elastic air-cushion B, which is inflated in 3 5 the usual manner by means of a valve b that is located at any convenient point, preferably at the under side of the air-cushion. The aircushion Bis made of soft rubber and molded into shape to correspond to the shape of the main-frame. The air-cushion B is provided at its middle portion near the centerof the wider rear-part of the seat, with an opening d, the portion of the air-cushion surrounding said opening being supported on a down-' 5 wardly-inclined flange d of an annular support D that is made of sheet-metal or any other suitable material and connected by means of sleeves, eyes or-other fastening devices d at its bottom-part with the converging legs of an auxiliary frame A that extends from the rear-part of the main-frame A to the front part or point of the same, as shown clearly in Figs. 1 and 2, The wider rear-part of the auxiliary frame A is applied to retainingeyes d of the main-frame A, while its front-end is formed into theshape of eyes and applied to a transverse screw -bolt 01 that connects the eyes at the front-part of the main-frame A, as shown in Fig. 1. The mid- .dle converging portion of the auxiliary frame A is curved in downward direction so as to provide for the insertion of the support D.
The frame A is attached in front of the sup port D by the ordinary clamp to the saddle supporting post of the bicycle, as shown in dotted line in Fig. 2. The annular support Dfor the open middle portion of the air-cushion is provided with ventilating openings in its sides and bottom when made of sheetmetal. These openings are not necessary when the cone is made of strong Wire or other suitable material. The elastic air-cushion B is retained in place on the main-frame A by being surrounded entirely by a leather cover E which is stitched at the inner or-outer edges around the main-frame and which serves to retain the air-cushion in proper position, so that it cannot shift from one side to the other by a change of pressure on the same.
The air-cushion forms a cool and comfort- 8o able seat forthe saddles of bicycles, by which the rider is not subject to the annoyances of the present leather-saddles, and which is of especial advantage during the warm season, as the'rider is thereby enabled to make I longer trips without extra fatigue.
Having thus described. my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent' 1. The combination, with an open mainframe, of an elastic air-cushion having an opening in its wider rear-portion, an annular support for the middle-portion of the air-cushion, and an auxiliary frame attached to the front and rear-ends of the main-frame and connected to said annular support, substantially as set forth.
