IMPROVED CAR-COUPLING.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 51,461, dated December 12, 1865.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE L. KITSON, of the city of Philadelphia and State of PennsyL vania, haveinvented an Improved Automatic- Oonnecting (Jar-Bumper; and Ido hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making apart of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective and sectional view. Fig. 2 is the plan. Fig. 3 is the end view.
The following is the description thereof: It consists in providing a sliding catch, B, to which is attached aspring, D, bearing against a post, E, or its equivali or, which is permanently secured to the bumper proper, A, for the purpose of holding the pin 0 in such a manher that when the link F, which makes the in M connection, presses the said sliding catch B it releases the pin 0, which immediately drops through the link F into the hole H helow, making asecure connection, the pin 0 having a groove, 1, in the lower end, in order to secure the suspension more perfectly, into which the sliding catch B inserts itself, and also secures it from being accidentally withdrawn from the bumper.
