UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD GREEN, OF WAKEFIELD, ENGLAND.
TRIPLE SCRAPER EMPLOYED N TUBES 0F FUEL-ECONOMIZERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 513,917, dated January 30, 1894.
Application filed September 26, 1893. Serial No. 486,562- (No model.) Patented in England December 27, 1892, No. 23,900.
To to whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD GREEN, onet, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, and a resident of Wakefield, in the county of York, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements Connected with Triple Scrapers Employed on Tubes of Fuel- Economizers, (patented in Great Britain, No. 23,900, December 27, 1892,) of which the fol lowing is a specification.
This invention has for its object, constructing triple scrapers used on the pipes of fuel economizers in such manner that when put in place they collectively touch the circumference of the pipe for scraping it all .round while being moved up and down, or otherwise by the usual reversing gear with which fuel economizers are fitted.
My invention is shown in the drawings. V
Figure 1 is a perspective elevation of the segmental scrapers complete; Fig. 2 elevaannexed tion of two corresponding segmental scrapers; Fig. 3 view of the third or intermediate segmental scraper; Fig. 4 part sectional elevation showing a tube of a fuel economizer and having the scraper edges in contact therewith.
Each section A, B, C, of my improved scraper has ascarf or angle faced surface a, a, b, b, c, c, from each segmental web 6, f, g, which bear in contact when fitted. The segmental scraper portions e, f, g, are at top and bottom respectively, and are connected by the stem or bar G, H, I, which has the usual ear lugs J, K, L, for sitting on the moving frame, the ear lugs J, K, L, being formed with an inclined under face, so that each scraper falls or slides against the pipe by the pressure of its own weight only. The scraping edges e, f, g, are at the upper part of each segment A, D, B, E, and C, F. One of the segmental pieces A has a lump h on each side ateach end, and has the chamfers a, a, formed from the lumps h, h. The two chamfers on the piece A are struck from the same point z from above its webs e, e, as shown by the dotted lines, Fig. 2. The next segment B has a lump h on one side only and with the cham-' fer I) struck from a point in the same relative position as the chamfers of A, the other side of segment B being without a lump and its edge chamfered at a reverse angle. The third bar segment Chas chamfered edges struck from a point from below its webs g, g, as shown by the dotted lines, Fig. 3. The three segments are so arranged that the plain chamfered edges fit slidingly upon the chamfers of the lumps having corresponding angles.
The above mentioned method of construction of double segmental scrapers A,D, B, E, and G, F, and their arrangement one with the other in the manner shown and herein described allows of the easy assembling of the segments in their proper place on the carrier by inserting them in the-order of their alphabetical enumeration and they can be as easily taken apart by Withdrawing the segments in their reverse order, 'that is to say, 0, F, B, E, and A, D, in the order named.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A tube scraper for fuel economizers consisting of three pairs of segmental scrapers A, D; B, E; and O, F, said segments being respectively connected by bars G, H and I, the segments A, D, having their ends chamfered at an angle struck from a point above the scraper edges, the segments B, E, having their ends chamfered at similar angles inclined in opposite directions, and the ends of the segments 0, F, chamfered at an angle struck from a point below the scraper edges, substantially as shown and described and for the purpose specified.
2. A tube scraper for fuel economizers consisting of three pairs of segmental scrapers A, D; B, E, and C, F, said segments being respectively connected by bars G, H and I, the segments A, D, having their ends chamfered at an angle struck from a point-above the scraper edges, and provided with enlargements h, the segments B, E, having their ends chamfered at similar angles inclined in opposite directions and provided at one of said Witnesses:
