Description

NITED l STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB CHEOUT, OF CALIFORNIA, IOWA. s
CHIMNEY.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. .513,758, dated January 30, *1894.
Application tiled August 31, 1892.- Serial No. 444.343- (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JACOB CHEOUT, of California, in the county of Harrison and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chimneys; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in Ventilating chimneys, designed for greater simplicity,`durability and cheapness of construction.
I have set forth fully hereinafter the details of construction and the essential features of my invention and illustrated them in the accompanyingvdrawings, in Which-- Figure l is a, longitudinal sectional elevation. Figs. 2 and 3 are perspective views of corresponding sections showing the manner of joining the sections together.
A represents the interior chimney or ue made in suitable lengths of wrought or sheet iron or any other suitable material, and approximately rectangular in cross section which are joined together in the novel manner described below. I inclose this inner flue A in a casing B, which is also made of the same material and composed of sections which are united in the same manner as the sections in the inner nue-A. By means of inwardly projecting shoulders C arranged on the inner surface of the outer shell B, the inner flue is separated from theouter casing, thereby allowing free circulation of air between the two. At the lower and upper ends of the chimney, I provide Ventilating holes D, and at the lower end an ash box or slide E.
My novel means of connecting the sections of the chimney together is clearly shown in Figsf 2 and 8 which consist of having projecting flanges, which are one-half the thickness of the Walls of the sections and are a continuation of said walls. Fig. 2 shows the male section with the anges as a continuation of the inner-half of the walls, the side anges F projecting to the outer edges of opposite surfaces of the section. Fig. 3 represents the corresponding female section, whose anges are a projection ot' the outer half of the walls of the section.
By joining the sections in the manner that I have described, the interior and exterior of the ue and also the outer casing have a continuous smooth surface, thereby making it impossible for soot or dirt to lodge in the chimneys.
In Fig. 1, G is a shoulder, secured to the outer casing B, adapted to rest on the roof of a house.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination with a'iiue section, having shouldered projecting flanges, of another section having openings at each corner eX- tending in the direction of ,the length of the section to receive the flanges on the other section, substantially as described.
In testimony vwhereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JACOB CHEOUT.
