Description
J. T. BEVER.
Cultivator.
No. 51,286 Patented Dec. 5, 1865.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICEO JOHN T. BEVER, OF BETHEL, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN 'CULTIVATORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 51,286, dated December 5, 1865.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN T. BEVER, of Bethel, in the county of Morgan and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Cultivators; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, making apart of this specification, of which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention in practical form. Fig. 2 is a detached view of the double hook or clevis with crossbars or flanges.
A A A constitute an inverting triangleframe with freely-working slots and tenons at each corner. Said frame is held together by bolts '1) b b l), which also work easy. 0 O are handles, made fast in their center to the rear bar, A, being double in their nature. When the frame is reversed theinterior points are necessarily thrown upon the exterior, thus being always suited to the relative condition of the frame and plows.
d d is a double hook or clevis with a crossbar or flanges, K K. Said hooks act upon the same inverting principle and in unison with the frame and handles, as above described, when the order of the plows is being reversed.
c e e e are uprights inserted in side bars, A A, made firm by braces or rods t' i i i, and containing the diamond or other turning plowblades ffff. Rods J J are used as braces to strengthen handles 0 0, being united to the rear bar, A.
The great novelty and utility of this invention and the grand features that distinguish it from all others are, first, the inverting triangle-frame containing four diamond or turning plows, which can be set to turn the dirt or furrows to or from the growing corn. This process is quickly and easily performed by removing the rear left-hand bolt, 1), as the plows are set for turning out, then turning the disunited parts of bars A A to the right and to the left until they reunite again then by inserting the bolt 1) all will be in place ready for operation, as before, except the order of the turning-plows is thereby changed.
Another novelty is the double hook or clevis and corresponding double handles acting in concert with each other when the order of the plows is being reversed, thereby always affording facilities to hitch to and handles to guide by.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and ask to secure by Letters Patent,
1. The inverting triangle-frame A A A, constructed with free-workingjoints or bolts 1) I) b b or their equivalents for the purpose of reversing the order of the turning-plowsffff, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. The double hook or clevis d d, with crossbar or flanges K K or their equivalent, for the purposes herein specified.
3. The handles 0 O,in combination with the inverting triangle-frame A A A, as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name before two subscribing witnesses.
. JOHN T. BEVER.
Witnesses:
