DISPLAY-ENVELOPE.

SPECIFICATION forming part/of Letters Patent No. 512,533, dated January 9, 1894.

Be it known that I, CHARLES J. BILLWIL- LER, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Display-Envelope, of which the iollowing is a full, clear, and exact descripion.

The object of theinvention is to provide a new and improved display envelope or wrapper, which is simple and durable in construction,and more especially designed forinclosing embroideries, laces, trimmings and other goods and displaying part thereof to permit of conveniently inspecting the goods without removing the entire piece from the envelope.

The invention consists of an'envelope having a back, sides folded over part of the said back, and ends folded over the said sides, and having flaps fastened to the under side of the said back.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification; in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figure l is a perspective view of the improvement. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same on the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section of the same on the line 33 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is a cross section of the improvement on the line 4E4. of Fig. 1.

The improved display envelope or wrapper, is made of a single piece of paper, card-board or other suitable material, and is formed with a back A, and sides B, B folded over part of the said back from end to end, so that asuitable space is left between the opposite edges and the said sides, as will be readily understood by reference to Figs. 1 and 2. From the back A, also extend the ends 0 and C, which fold over the sides B and B, at the ends thereof, and the said ends are provided with side flaps D, adapted to fold on or be glued or otherwise secured to the under side of the back A. Thus the ends 0 and 0, hold the ends of the sides B and B in place, and at the same time form pockets for the insertion of the piece of goods as illustrated in the drawings. It will be seen, that an opening is formed between the adjacent edges of the sides B, B and the adjacent edges of'th'e ends 0, 0, so that part of the goods inclosed in the envelope or Wrapper appears, to permit of examining the goods without removing'the entire piece from the envelope.

It is understood that laces, embroideries, trimmings and similar goods, are usually wound on a cardboard, board or other fiat plate, which permits of conveniently inspecting the entire piece in the envelope or wrapper, the plate giving sufficiently to permit of introducing the ends of the piece of goods in the pockets formed by the ends 0, O, and also of passing the sides of the piece of goods under the-sides B, B.

It will be seen that this envelope or wrapper can be cheaply manufactured, is simple and durable in construction,v and securely holds the goods in place, at the same time permitting inspection of part as a sample.
