SCRAPER-PLOW.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 511,583, dated December 26, 1893.

Be it known that I, AARON J. BURR, of Griffin, in the county of Spalding and.State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Scraper-Flows, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to an improvement in plows, especially to what is known as scraper plows or scrapers and adapted forthe cultivation of cotton, corn and other grain, and the object of the invention is to construct the plows in such manner that their cutting edges will remain sharp longer than when the plows are made in the ordinary manner, and a more efiective scraping of the surface of the ground may be obtained.
A further object of the invention is to provide a means whereby in addition to the plow scraping or cutting with greater facility than is customary, the refuse matter will be discharged from the plow in a much more expeditious and cleanly manner than is now possible.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the several parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth and pointed out in the claim.

Figure 1 is a front elevation'of the improved scraper. Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken practically on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a front elevation of a slightly modified form of the scraper;and Fig. 4 is a vertical section taken practically on the line 4 4 of Fig. 3.
In carrying out the invention the under face 10 of the scraper, is made perfectly straight while its upper surface from a point near the center designated as a, is beveled downward to the lower edge, thus rendering that portion of the scraper wedge-shaped in cross section, and a sharp cutting edge a, is obtained. By locating the bevel on top of the scraper blade instead of on the bottom a much finer point may be made, and one that will last much longer than when the bevel is made upon the under side, since the earth in gradually wearing oif the surface at the lower back portion of the blade will maintain the lower or cutting surface in good cutting condition. Furthermore, the beveled surface when located upon the outer face of the blade maybe sharpened much more readily than when the bevel is on the back, as'the sharpening may be accomplished without inverting the implement, or without removing the blade from its shank.
The only difference between the construction shown in Figs. '1 and 3, consists in the fact that the upper portion of the scraper blade, as shown in Fig. 1, is straight, while the upper surface of the blade as constructed in Fig. 3, is beveled, the bevel extending from the pointa, at which the lower bevel commences, upward and rearward to the upper edge, thus producing an upward rearwardly-inclined front surface 11, over which the dirt, weeds, 650., removed from the ground by the scraper, may pass in an expeditious and cleanly manner; that is to say, such matter will pass rearward at the back of the plow more in bulk than heretofore and much more rapidly, and will not scatter in advance of the scraper.
A scraper blade provided with two bevels is especially desirable, but the lower bevel located at the front provides for an eifective cutting surface and one that will last for a long time.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A scraper plow formed of a single piece and having rearwardly and upwardly inclined wings at opposite sides of a straight middle portion; the outer face of the scraper being beveled from the middle line ato the bottom edge, substantially as set forth.
