SPRING BED-BOTTOM.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE WASHINGTON ORoWDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Goldthwaite, in the county of .Mills and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring Bed-Bottoms, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, forming a part of this specification.

My invention relates to spring bed bottoms.

It has forits object to provide a spring bed bottom, which shall be simple of construction, durable in use, and comparatively inex pensive of production.

With these objects in view, the invention consists in certain features of construction and combination of parts of the same which shall be hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure l is a side view of abed frame with one of the side rails removed to more clearly show my invention, and Fig. 2, is a top plan View of the same.

In the drawings the letter A, denotes the bed frame which may be of any well known or improved construction. B, denotes the slats, and C denotes the springs, Each of these springs is made of ordinary bed spring wire, and can be of any desired size and shape, and each is provided at its lower end with a spring clamp D, by means of which it is securely held in position on a bed slat. The spring clamps are made integral with the spring proper, and each is formed by bending the lower coil'outward a suitable distance, and then inward, terminating in an outwardly projecting end E, which latter is situated approximately parallel to the vertical axis of the spring. The upper coil of each of said springs is bent outward as shown at F, then laterally as. shown at G, then back wardly as shown at H, again laterally as shown at I, and then rearwardly again as shown at J, where it is formed with a hook K. By this construction, one spring may be hooked to the adjacent spring on the same slat, and then to the spring oppositely as Serial No. 482,694. (No model.)

It will be seen that the bed bottom may be easily removed, by detaching the springs 5 5 from each other, when the slats may be lifted clear out of the bed-stead without bodily removing the bed bottom, thus enabling a delicate person to easily take apart and clean the bed.

L, denotes spring clamps secured to the ends of each of the end slats;

M, denotes the head braces the ends of which are in hook form, and the upper ends of which are hooked into eyes screwed in the head board of thebed and the lower ends hooked into the adjacent springs. These brace rodsare preferably curved to give to the mattress a curvature so that the pillows may be properly placed.

N, denotes the foot braces which are hooked in eyes screwed to the under edge of the foot board, and to the lower springs. By this manner of fastening the springs it will be evident thatthey will retain their shape and not sag out of position, they being firmly braced and held in place. I

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantage of my invention will be readily understood. Thebed bottom is simple, it is easilysecured in position, and

Having thus, described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
