Be it known that I, PAUL LOUGHET, a citizen of the Republic of France, residing at Paris, France,have invented new and useful Improvements in Brush-Mountin gs, which are fully set forth in the following specification, and for which the following Letters Patent have been obtained: in France July 25, 1892, No. 223,224; in EnglandNovember 17, 1892, No. 20,876, and in Austria-Hungary November 10, 1892.

The present invention has for its object the production as a new article of manufacture, of brush mountings, made whollyof porcelain or earthenware, and the method and means by which the same may be obtained will be herein explained. Such mountings have the great advantage over those heretofore used, that of not being injnriously aifected by water and of being easily cleansed. Moreover they are capable of receiving all sorts of decoration, and may be made to be in keeping with other articles of toilet, generally made of ceramics.

The annexed drawings show, as a matter of illustration a brush mounting of my manufacture.

transverse sectional view, and Fig. 3, a leogitudinal section of the same.

To produce these mountings I proceed as follows: First,1 make separately, by molding, the plates 0 and D. Both of these plates are solid, that is to say the holes B, B, B" which appear in the plate D are made after the two plates are united. The plates are then placed one against the other, and the borders or edges of each are either kneaded together while yet in a plastic condition, or they are coated with enamel, which forms the joint. The distance between the two plates is maintained by ridges, in such a way as to leave horizontal channels A, A and A" which are necessary for the proper mounting of the bristles. This arrangement assures the solidity of the mounting of the bristles in the back of the brush, since the intervals between the two plates 0 and D being quite shallow, the tufts or loops of the bristles will rest against the bottom of the upper plate 0, and therefore willbeprevented from being pushed out, as is the case of brush backs pierced throughout. The piercing of the holes may be efiected after the porcelain has been subjected to a first or preliminary baking. The mounting prepared as shown in Fig. 3, is then ready for enameling or rebaking, as is the case in other articles of porcelain. The

It is obvious that my process may be modified in some particulars. Thus the piercing of the vertical holes may be effected before instead of after the union of the two plates 0 and D.

What I claim is- 1. A brush-back or mounting composed of two molded plates of porcelain or earthenware, one of which is solid, the other being perforated for the bristles and cemented or kneaded to the first, substantially as described.

2. A back or mounting composed of two molded plates of porcelain or earthenware, one of which is solid, the other being provided with longitudinal channels extending to the end of the brush, and with transverse perforations from the outside of said plate through the same to the interior channels, and the two plates being kneaded or cemented together, substantially as described.
