SPECIFICATION forming part f Letters iPatent No. 510,377, datedjDecember 5, 1893.
Application filed Pehrua1y4,18:93. Se rial ITO-461.009, (No model.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I. FRANZ ALo1s BRAUSIL, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Vienna, Austria-Hungary, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Machines for Decorating Wooden Lists and Pressed Veneers, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a machine for the manufacture of ornamented I moldings or the like, which when finished will have the appearance of moldings carved by hand.
The invention consists in the novel and peculiar construction of the machine, in the arrangement of adjustable and interchangable rollers carrying interchangable ornamenting collars, and further consists in the combination and arrangement of the various parts, substantially as will be hereinafter more fully described and finally embodied in the clauses of the claim.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each of the several figures: Figure 1, is a side elevation of my improved machine; Fig. 2. a front elevation of Fig. 1, certain portions being shown in sections. Fig. 3. is a sectional view on line 0c m of Fig 2, and Fig. 4 asectioual view on line 'y-y of Fig. 1.
In said drawings 0 0 represent the frame, braced and securely held together by bolts D. On the top portion of said frame is arranged the bearing L for the shaft of the roller A, which bearing is provided with a solid bearing cap I secured to the frame by bolts Z and keys 1 as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. To the roller A are secured in any desired manner the ornamentation rings or collars a,
;ter is adapted to be raised and lowered in guide ways R by means of elevating screw S, operated through hand-wheel H, by meshing gear- wheels 2 and ,2, as clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The shafts for gearwhe'els 2 and .2 are connected together by means of connecting rods G, for the purposes hereinafter more fully specified.
' On the roller B are removably secured aunular rings b, the su rface'of which correspond to the blind or back portion of the molding to be ornamented. By preference said annular rings are constructed in two half sec- 7o tions 5 b (see Fig. 3), which are provided with projecting lugs e and which are secured together by boltsf.
The various gear connections a, z 2 have to be so arranged, that when the machine is in operation, the speed of the rollers A and B is the same, and that the rollers revolve in the opposite directions.
By means of the elevator screws S and S, the distance between the rollers A and B can 8 be easily changed to the various thicknesses of moldings to be ornamented.
The various gear-wheels 2', 2 a and .2 will always be in close contact, as, when the roller B and its gear-wheel Z4 are lowered or raised, the gear-wheelz is equally loweredand raised carrying along-by connection G-the gearwheel 2 as will be clearly understood from the foregoing description.
In operation, the molding is first cut into the required shape and then the surface to be ornamentedis saturated with water-or in case of veryhard woodwith hydrochloric acid. The rollers are adjusted for the required thickness of the molding, the latter 5 being placed, with its blind or back surface on the annular ring I), and the rollers are then put in rotation. It very hard wood moldings are to be ornamented, the rollersAandB can be made hollow and heated from the inside or [00 outside. To prevent the metal rings a and b from being destroyed by the hydro-chlorio acid, said rings are frequently washed with ammonia soap, thus neutralizing the acid.
I do not intend to limit myself to the construction shown and described as various alterations can be made without changing the scope of my invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a Wood-molding ornamenting machine, the combination of the frame 0, upper roller A having removable bearings L in said frame, and carrying the removable ornamenting collars a, a lower guide roller B, having the sliding bearings L in said frame and carrying the grooved removable guide collars b, with the gear wheels 2', 1.2 .2 connecting said upper and lower rollers together, said gear-wheel 23 having a sliding bearing in said frame, and said gear wheel a a movable bearing in a curved slot F of said frame, and with the hand wheel H, gear wheels 2 2, screws S, S, and rod G connecting the bearings of said gear wheels Z2, .2 together, all adapted to elevate or depress said lower roller 13 and at the same time maintain its gear connection with said upper roller A, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANZ ALOIS BRAUSIL. Witnesses:
