TOILET-GLASS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 510,076, dated December 5, 1893.

Application filed April 20, 1892.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, O'r'ro LUNDERSHAUSEN, asubject of the King of Prussia, German Emperor, and a resident of Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia, German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet-Glasses, of which the followingis a full and exact specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved toilet-glass partly in section. Fig. 2 is a sideelevationof the same. Fig. 3 is a crosssectional elevation of the same, and Fig. 4 is a sectional plan on line AB of Fig. 1.

My invention relates to a toilet-glass made of three parts, each having a mirror plate, and the outer parts being adapted to turn round a hinge and to fold into a suitable frame.

My invent-ion also consists in providing appropriate springs in order to effect an automatic opening of the hinge parts upon pressing a suitable knob, said knob being connected to a catch which locksthe parts in their folded position.

F is the frame of my improved toilet-glass, said frame being made of wood or metal or any other material. The free space Sinclosed by the frame F is of square or rectangular form. The frame may be secured to the wall by means of nails, hooks or by any other means. To- Ward the rear part of the frame I provide grooves G for receiving the mirror glass M. A short distance in front of the mirror glass M I provide the hinge H for a frame B, said frame being adapted to receive a second mirror-glass M.

The frame R is hinged to the frame F in the following manner: At the top it is connected to the frame F simply by means of a pin P serving as a pivot. About at middle height of the frame R I secure to the same the ends of two fiat metal strips T, preferably of steel, for instance by passing them through a small sleeveLand soldering them to the same. These flat metal-strips T extend downward, passing loosely through a suitable hole 0 at the bottom of the frame R, and are at their under ends secured to a small plate F. embeddedin the frame F. The metal-strips T act as torsional springs, and are arranged in such manner that they have a tendency to turn the frame B into the open position illustrated by Serial No. 429,876. (No model.)

On the opposite'side of the frame F and directly in front of the frame R,Isecure a frame R, having a mirror-glass M and hinged to the frame F in exactly the same manner as described for the frame R. Finally I provide, in the middle of the frame F, a knob K, which is rigidly connected to a catch 0, said catch being pressed upward by a spring I. On the lower side of the frame R I provide a suitable catch or notch adapted to engage with the catch C. The faces of the frame R and mirror-glass M which are to mod outward when the toilet-glass is in its folded position, may be decorated by an ornamental pattern or by a picture.

The device, being in its closed position, may be opened by applying a slight downward pressure on the catch 0. The frame R is then released and, being influenced by the spring formed by the metal strips T, turns round the hinge and folds outof the frame F, the frame Rfollowing closely. The device then presents athree-fold mirror-surface which is very convenient for toilet use. When it is desired to bring the parts into their first closed position,'the frame R is turned round its hinge and folded into the frame F; after this, the

same is done with the frame R, and the catch C automatically engages with the catch or notch provided on the under side of said frame, thus locking the parts in the folded position.

Having thus fully described the nature of my invention, What I desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is- In a toilet-glass, the combination with the frame F- provided with an open space S, vertical grooves G formed in the rear portion of the sides of the frame, a mirror glass M in said grooves, a second frame R provided with a mirror glass M and hinged to the frame F within the space S, and at one side of the same, said frame B being adapted to be folded'within the frame F and being provided with an opening 0, a third frame R provided with a mirror glass M and hinged to the frame F within the space S and at the end thereof opposite to the frame B, said frame R being adapted to be folded within the frame F over the frame R and being provided with an opening 0, flat metallic spring strips T secured at their upper ends to the frames R, R
