Wlth these ends in View, the invention conslsts of the construction and arrangement of the parts thereof as will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.-

Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawings.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the bolster that ismounted rotatably on a sand board 2 supported on a bed piece or bolster 3, to which is secured the axle 4. Between the sand board and bed piece or bolster are mounted the hounds 5, and at the center of the sand board or bolster an open space is formed in which is movably mounted a reach 6. All of these parts except in the particulars that will be hereinafter set forth are of ordinary construction and will be readily understood by those skilled in the art.

Over the bed piece or bolster 3 is mounted a clip 7, having a tube or socket 8 rising vertically from the center of the top part of the same and preferably constructed of gas pipe or analogous material. The upper exterior endof said tube or socket is screw-threaded, as at 9, and is removably engaged by a clipplate 10, that partially embraces the sand board 2, and said clip-plate is formed with a pair of openings 11 in each of the upturned ends thereof that align with a pair of openings 12, horizontally disposed and transversely extending through the said sand board Serial No. 466,112. (No model.)

2. Bolts 13 are passed through the openings 12 and 11 and receive nuts 14, thereby firmly securing said clip-plate 10 in position on the sand board. The screw-threaded end 90f the tube or socket 8 engages the clipplate 10 at the central part thereof and aligns with a vertical opening 15 in the sand board 2. The tube or socket 8 extends vertically across the center of the open space between the sand board and the bed piece or bolster and is engaged by the end of the reach 6. Centrally depending from the under side of the bolster l is a bolt 16 that has an upper thickened part 17 and a lower reduced part 18. The thickened part of said bolt 16 rests in the opening 15 of the sand board 2, while the reduced part of said bolt is rotatably located in the tube or socket 8; and by this construction it will be observed that the wear on the bolt 16 by the reach is removed, as the said reach bears directly on the tube or socket 8, which incloses the said bolt. Furthermore, the wood or material of the several parts through which the bolt passes in ordinary forms of construction is cut away by the action of such bolt, especially the sand board and bed piece,but by the construction herein set forth the bolt is prevented from contacting with the sand board and bed piece and wear is obviated, and thereby that part of the coupling which has usually been weak is materially strengthened and reinforced without employing complex mechanism and at the same time attaining the usual advantageous results. 7

The depending ends of the clip 7 are screwthreaded and depend below the axle 4, and to secure the said clip in position a tie-plate 19 is fitted over the said ends of the clip against the under side of the axle and nuts 20 are then caused to engage the said clip-ends and secure the several parts in position. In the form of the device set forth, it will be observed that the reach 6 has attached to the end thereof a pair of plates 21, that extend beyond the said end in a horizontal direction and through which vertically pass bolts supplied with nuts, as at 22. The object of this construction is to provide convenient means for uncoupling the wagon without lifting the front end of the bed.

As will be seen, by r merely removing or disconnecting the coupling-bolts 22 the wagon may be quickly uncoupled.

The simplicity of the construction and arrangement of parts set forth makes the same exceptionally advantageous; and changes in the form, proportion, and the minor details of construction may-be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.

Having described the invention, What is claimed as new is- 1. In combination with the bolster, sand board, and bed piece, of a clip secured over said bed piece and having a tube or socket vertically rising therefrom with. an upper screw-threaded end, a clip-plate secured to the under side of the sand board and removably engaging the screw-threaded end of said tube or socket, and a bolt depending from the bolster and having a lower reduced part rotatably fitted into said tube or socket, Whereby the reach is caused to bear on the said tube or socket between the bed piece and sand board, substantially as described.

2. In combination with the bolster, the sand board, and the bed piece, of a clip secured over said bed piece and having a tube or socket rising vertically therefrom and formed with an upper exteriorly-screW-threaded end, a reach movably fitted over the said tube or socket and located between the sand board and bed piece, a clip'plate secured to said sand board and removably engaging the said upper screw-threaded end of said tube or socket, and a bolster having a depending bolt with an upper thickened part and alower reduced end, the said thickened part passing through the sand board and the reduced end fitted in said tube or socket and the said reach provided with plates that extend beyond the end thereof having removable bolts therein, substantially as described.
