CHARLES R. R. BECK, OF BALTIMORE,MARYLAND.
DRUGGISTS STILL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 509,282, dated November 21, 1893. Application filed June 3, 1893. Serial No. :76.496. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES R. R. BECK, of Baltimore city, in the State of Maryland, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Druggists Stills, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in What are known as pharmaceutical or druggists stills used by pharmacists or druggists in distilling the various extracts and waters in the course of business and the invention seeks to provide improvements in the still whereby the condensations will all be collected and conducted out of the still instead of permitting some of the condensations to fall back into the heating vessel and the invention consists in the special constructions and combinations of parts as will be herein The tank A in practice contains water and the vessel B fits in said tank and has at its top a flange resting upon the top flange of the tank. This vessel B contains water or the other material itis desiredto distill and heat is applied to the tank A, it may be by placing said tank upon a stove or other heater. An'outlet is provided near the top of the tank A for steam and the overflow from said tank. The fumes from the contents of the vessel rise and are condensed against the interior of the condensing cover or hood. This hood is cooled by water being, preferably water jacketed and having an in-' let 1 and an outlet 2 to permit the circulation of cooling water from a suitable supply.
such water circulating between the inner and outer shells3 and 4. of the condenser hood. This hood is preferably made conical and has at its apex an opening 5 closed by a suitable valve 6 through which the vessel B may be filled and replenished.
Atthe base of the condenser I provide a trough D which collects the condensations which accumulate and flow down the hood, and an outlet pipe is provided at 01 leading from the trough D and serving to conduct off the distillations.
and the crown of the hood and adapted to collect the condensations before they accumulate in such quantities as to drip back into the Vessel. This trough E has an outlet 6 which preferably communicates with the outlet d so that the distillations from both troughs D and E maybe discharged into the same vessel. This outlet pipe 6 it will be seen is arranged within the water jacket and is cooled thereby so that there will be no danger of vaporizing the distillations after they reach the said pipe 6. This arrangement of the pipe e within the waterjacket also avoids any diminution of the condensing surface as will be readily-understood from Fig. 2.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isr t 1. In a still substantially as described the improved condensing hood made conical provided at its apex with a filling opening and having from base to top a surrounding water jacket provided near its top and bottom with inlet and outlet openings whereby to permit circulation of water through said jacket, a
base trough arranged within the hood and a projecting lapping flanges'at their upper I00 ends, the hood having its lower end rested upon and clamped to said flanges provided at its apex witha filling opening and having the water jacket inolosing it and provided with a water inlet and exit whereby water may be circulated through the jacket, a base collecting trough arranged in said hood and a supplemental trough arranged in the hood above the base trough and having an outlet pipe all substantially as and for the purposes [0 set forth.
CHARLES R. R. BECK.
