Description

(No Model.)
B. A. CLARK.
MOON DIAL FOR CLOCKS.
Patented Nov. 14
UNITED STATES PATENT Grams.
EVERETT ALBERT CLARK, PITTSFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
MOON-DIAL FOR CLOCKS.
SPEOIFTOATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 508,467, dated November 14,1893.
' I Application filed March 25, 1893. Serial No. 467,569. (No model.)
1'0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EVERETT ALBERT CLARK, residing at Pittsfield, in the county of Berkshire and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Moon-Wheels; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it ap-' pertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in moon Wheels for clocks, the object of the invention being to arrange a moon which in such manner that it can be used in a clock of ordinary size without providing a supplemental compartment therefor or increasing the size of the dial or the works.
A further object is to providea moon wheel and means for operating it, which shall be so constructed and arranged as to permit the arbors of the hour and minute to pass through said moon wheel. I
With these objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and-arrangements of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claim.
Figure 1 is face view of a clock having my improved moon wheel applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a rear view of the moon wheel and the devices for operating it.
A represents a portion of a clock frame,
and B the dial supported thereby, said dial wheel is provided in its periphery with, preferably, fifty-nine teeth, and said wheel is prevented from rotation in one direction by means of a spring dog 01, preferably secured A spring arm D is seto the frame work.
cured at one end to the framework at one side of the moon wheel and, after extending to the other side, is bent substantially concentric with the moon wheel and provided at its free end with a dog e adapted to engage the teeth of said moon wheel. The arbor of the hour hand is provided with a pinionf, adapted to mesh with a spur wheel g, the proportions of said pinion and spur wheel relatively to each being such that two revolutions of the pinion will cause one revolution of the spur-wheel, so that in twenty-four hours the spur wheel will make one revolution. The spur wheel g is provided with a pin it which is adapted to engage the spring arm D and cause the same to move sufficiently to move the moon wheel one tooth. Thus it will be seen that once in twenty-four hours the moon wheel will be moved one tooth, and in two lunar months the moon wheel will make acomplete revolution. These devices are very simple, occupy a very small amount of space and are effectual in the performance of their functions.
Having fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combinationwith the arbor of the hour hand of a clock and a pinion carried thereby, of a moon wheel mounted loosely on said arbor, and provided with teeth inits periphery, a spring arrn, a dog at the free end of said spring arm and adapted to engage the teeth of the moon wheel, a spur wheel adapted to tion to each two. revolutions of said pinion, and a pin carried by saidspur wheel adapted to engage said spring and thus move the moon Wheel one tooth at each revolution of the spur wheel, and a dog adapted to prevent retrograde rotation of the moon wheel, substantially as set forth. e
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
EVERETT ALBERT CLARK.
