T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that we, Josnr DEMKO and PAUL GnnsoHNER, both citizens of the Ozecho-S-lovakian Republic, residing at Zabokreky, Czechoslovakia, and Nmecky Pravno, Czechoslovakia, respectively, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Watches and Clocks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object to provide an improved watch, (this expresslon including clocks and the like) des gned to show the hours from 1 to 24 in place of the usual arrangements of 1 to 12. In a watch according to this invention, a dial is employed on which the figures 1 to 12' are marked in the usual-places and between these figures there are arranged in numerical or der the continuation hour figures 13 to 24. This dial is mounted so as to be capable of limited rotation in such a manner that the hour figures 13 to 24 can be brought over the hour figures 1 to 12 and vice versa. This dial is covered by a cover plate formed with apertures through which at any time either the series of hour figures 1 to 12 or the series of hour figures 13 to 24 are visible in the usual positions. The rotation of the dial is effected automatically in such a manner that the dial is rotated forwardsor backwards under the fixed cover plate whenever the minute hand has completed its passage over one or the other series of 12 hours.
An embodiment of this invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawings, in which 2-- Figs. 1 and 2 illustrate an improved watch respectively when showing the time according to the series of hours 1 to 12 and with the series of hours 13 to 24. The internal mechanism of the watch is visible in both these figures.

This pin is adapted to actuate a pawl e which engages by means of a tooth f in one or the other of notches g, it provided in the dial 5. The wheel 0 meshes with a wheel 2' having double the number of teeth which imparts stress to a spring is that serves to move the dial 6 backwards and forwards. This spring is pivoted on a pin Z and is attached at one end to the dial 6 whilst its other end is formed with a slot m in which engages a pin it fixed to the double wheel 6. According as the pin a is in the position shown in Fig. 1 or in the position shown in Fig. 2, the spring 70 will have a tendency to rotate the dial Z) in one or the other direction, whenever the said dial is released by the tooth f of the pawl 6 after the said pawl has been rotated by the pin d. The pawl e is preferably formed as shown so that it will act rigidly only in the case of a right hand rotation of the pawl wheel a, but will yield to the action of the pin d in the case of the rotation of the wheel 0 in the opposite direction. This automatic shifting device may be thrown out of operation when it is desired to use only the hour figures 1 to 12, by means of a pawl 0 which will hold the dial 7) in opposition to the spring 70. The dial 6 is covered by a cover plate 19 which is formed with 12 apertures through which either the series of hour figures 1 to 12 or the series of hour figures 13 to 24 are visible in the usual positions of. the hour figures. The dial Z) is shifted forwards or backwards automatically whenever the hour hand has passed completely over one or the other of the series of hour figures.
In'Fig. 3 the time shown by the watch is 58 minutes past the 24th hour, that is to say, it is two minutes to 1 oclock. After the expiration of these two minutes the dial 6 will be moved out of the position shown in Figs. 2 and 3 into the position shown in Fig. 1.
What we claim is i 1. A watch having shifting hour figures, comprising a wheel mounted on the hour arbor, a movable dial having two notches, a pawl having a tooth engaging with one of the two notches in the movable dial, means mun M for releasing said dial after a complete revolution of the hour hand, a spring, means for stressing the spring alternately in dii ferent directions, thereby causing the dial to rotate in one or the other direction.
2. A Watch as claimed in claim 1, having an auxiliary Wheel, means for driving the auxiliary Wheel from the hour Wheel, means for causing the spring producing the forward and backward rotation of the dial to be stressed by the auxiliary wheel as and for the purpose forth.
