ln operation the object being asstated, to convert the oil into a fixed gas by a disintegration of the same by heat and also to incorporate therewith the gases evolved from the material within the generator, cover 13 is raised and a combustible gas evolving material inserted within the chamber 12, which material may be charcoal, or the cheap comminuted product ifrornv siftings anthracite or bituminous coal, or as a mineral it may consist of an ordinary metal as iron ore, or 'l may introduce ordinary garbage as collected from kitchens and refuse of cities, which when introduced is urged in to the generator by screw 17, andwhen the generator is sniicicntly full, theelcct'ric current is turned on, causingrthe carbon points to attain from v1,800010 2,600O ot' heat, valve 11 is opened and the oil permitted to flow through nozzle 26 into the radius ,of incandescent material Within the generator and is immediately converted into a gas, and permeates the heated mass of material within the generator, causing tire same to evolve all combusti-ble properties therefrom, which interniingle with the hydrocarbon vapor and 'combine in forming a gr", 'which is received into pipe 28, and conveyed thereby to a place of storage or combustion. Boring the process of converting` 'the oil into the gas, the mass within the generator may 1oe heated sutliciently to cause aninherent heat olsu-fticient intensity to cause the oil to be converted into gas, as for instance if the generator is filled with coal, and the incandescent mass, is performing the Work of vaporizing the oil, and incorporating the combustible gases there- \vitl1,the electrical current maybe cut on?, and the mass be allowed to convert the oil by its own heat, it being understood that the current is'einployed as soon as the heat decreases, or when a new supply of material is charged into the generator, the idea of the invention being to provide 'for a continuous manufacture of gas, by reason of a constant flow of oil, and a rcplenishingol the material within the generator needed. ln. introducing a new charge of material into the generator while in operation, handle 2O ot' the sphere 19 is turned to close thc conduit, rod 1U and feeder 17, are raised when cover 13 is opened, and the material is introd uced. When cover i3 is closed and fastened, sphere l?) is revolved to open the conduit, and the material is forced into the generator by revolving feeder i7, until the generator is i`ull and profcovers erablydcnsely packed. Anfeleotric current is now caused to pass through the carbon points, heating the mass within a limited radius of the points to incandescence, when oil is admitted to the generator and is Aquickly con- Vcrted into a gas and unites with the gases evolved from the incandescent mass, and is either stored in a gasometer, or used in immediate combustion.
The purpose of the dampers 4 of shell l are to admit air to the interior of the shell, and surrounding the generator, to prevent too great heat of the shell of the generator, dampers 6 being for the purpose of allowing escape of heat or confining the same.
it will be understood from the foregoing description, that I am enabled by my process to evolve all the gaseous products-ol the oil and material introduced into the generator and thatsu material of the most crude nature may be employed with profit to be heated to incandescence, to and only be inherent heat, but by evolving combustible vapor.

In an apparatusof the class described, the combination with an outer casing having air conduits, and a perforated top, of a cover or damper .plate arranged to cover the perforations in said cover, a retort located centrally within the outer casing, a hopper passing through the casing and leading into the retort at the top, the valve and feeder located -near the upperend of the hopper, the oil sup ply pipe passing into the retort to the center of the same, the carbon points passing also into the retort, the electrical connection for thefea-rbon'points, and a gas conductor pipe for carrying oft' thc gas produced within the retort.
2. ln an apparatus of the class described, thc combination With an outer casing having air conduits and a perforated top, of a cover or damper plate arranged upon said top, a centrally located retort, a hopper leading into said retort at the top of the same?, an oil supply pipe passing into the center of the retort, the carbon points passing also into the retort, the electrical connections for the carbon points, the gas conductor pipe leading from the retort to the outside oi` the casing, and a v screw feeder located in the hopper for feeding a solid gas evolving substance to the retort.
