Description

UNITE STABS rtree@ EPHRAIM N. BLAGKMER, OF MOGRAWVILLE, NEW YORK.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 50579E, dated November 7, 1865. p
To all Awhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EPHRMM N. BLAoKMnn of McGrnwville, in the county of Cortland und State of New York, lntve invented a, new and useful Improvement in Machines for Molding Stone or Potters `Ware rlubing; und .l do hereby decla-re thet the following is a. full, elettr, und exact description of the construction Ifind operation of the sume, reference being hud to the annexed drawings, making n part of this si'ieciiicution, in which- Figure 1 is n perspective View. Fig. 2, is u longitudinal section through the center of the molding-box, und Fig. 3 yis u transverse seetion of the sume, like letters referring to like parts.
The object of this machine is to manufacture tubing in lengths of convenient size with tiunges ut euch end, so that the lengths een be fastened together by bolts through i the flanges, or otherwise.
rr` u. is e substuntiui frame with slides d d running lengthwise ot' the sume und forming u carriage-way for the bed-piece c c. Underheath the bed-piece ure cogs, represented at g, into which ratchet-wheels mesh, the lutter being operated by 'the crunk e. 0n this bedpieee is placed the moldingbox b I). This box is eut horizontally through the center und the two pnrts hinged, as represented at q in Fig. 3, while on the opposite side are the hooks or clasps n o, te hold the box together tightly` when desired. Running through the box longitudinally is the six-sided mold or cavity s, with a flange in the mold at euch end thereof, p1). It is n mandrel to be rotated by hund in the supports u n.
In operating this apparatus the box b is thrown open-nud the mold or cavity filled with the preparation t0 bemolded, crowdingit into tlieilnnges ofthe mold, particulnrlyut p p .f
The box, being at the remote end of the freine, is then closed and the clasps o o applied. The operator then turns the crank e with one hand und the mandrel It with the other. The box is thus carried forward, the mandrel entering the center of the mold und going the length of the box, and, ofcourse, through theclay. The shoulder i on the mandrel, when brought up to the box, forms an' end of the mold. ln short, the mandrel is n eore'to the mold, und is thrust inor ont of the box and mold bycerrying the box forward or backward ou the slides by means of the crunk und wheels, and it is an easy and expeditious method of molding this kind of ware.
YVhet I claim, und desire to seeureby Letters Patent, is
The combination of thc shouldered mandrel It and the molding-box b, operatedl as above 'set forth.
