TH READ-GUIDE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 507,561, dated October 31, 1893.
Application filed April 15, 1893. Serial N o. 470,498. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE SINGLETON, a citizen ot' the United States, residing at Dover, 1n the State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Thread-Guide, for equal distribution of a thread while the thread is be- 1ng transferred from the skein to the spool or from one spool to another in thread-windlng machines, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to furnish a thread guide of more simple construction and adapted to be affixed, unfixed andad- Justed with much greater facility to the traverse bar of a thread winding machine. I attain these objects by means of the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure l represents my device affixed to a section of the traverse bar of a thread winding machine. Figs. 2 and -3 show transverse sections of the traverse bar cut through the thread guide and the flexible wire frame which holds the thread guide in place on the bar. Fig. 4 is alongitudinal view of the iieXible wire frame, and Eig. 5 is a top view of the thread guide, with a crevice in the ccnter for the passage of the thread.

In atlxing my thread guides, which are preferably made of porcelain, to the traverse bar A, the thread guide is placed in what I call a chair en formed in the center of the flexible wire frame B by bending the frame into the required shape. The feet b of the frame B are then placedinto the T shaped slot O;. then the chair, in which the thread guide sits, is pushed back and into the slot and in straightening up the frame the lower part c of the chair, which is bent to conform, and the feet of the frame bent in the opposite direction bear against opposite sides of the inside ot the slot O, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3. Shifting and displacement of the thread guides on the bar are prevented by the shoulder d on the bottom of the thread guide, which can be seen in Figs. 2 and 3. Adjustment of the guide to the point of winding is effected by simply grasping either end of the wire frame B and drawing the whole device along to the desired location on the traverse bar. The creases e. e. in the lthread guide are intended to receive the shoulders formed by the bend of the wire frame B at the point indicated by the letters f, f. These crevices are shown in the guide because I may prefer to use them, but I claim that my thread guide can be kept well in place on the traverse bar by causing the wire shoulders f,f to bear upon the plain face of .the top of the guide, the shoulder in the slot aided by the slight pressure of the frame at fj preventing shifting and displacement. rlhe letter D indicates the thread guide.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim' as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a thread winding machine the combination with a traverse bar slotted from end to end of the thread guides provided with depending lugs adapted to work in the slot of the traverse bar and means for holding said thread guides in position, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. In a thread winding machine the combination with the traverse bar A, slotted from end to end ot the wire thread guide frames adapted to slide in the slot in said bar, and thread guides secured in said trame, substantially as described.
3. The combination with aslotted traverse bar constructed as above set forth, the ilexible wire frame B a thread guide or guides having shoulders to enter said bar and held to said bar by means of the exible wire frame B substantially as described and above set forth.
4. In a thread winding machine, the combination with slotted traverse bar, of the flexible wire frame B provided with feet bent to one side, and a thread guide chair formed between said feet the lower portion of which is bent in an opposite direction from the feet whereby the feet and lower part of the chair bear against opposite sides of the slot; and athread guide carried in said chair,substantially as described.
