ANDREW M. COLE, OF HIGHLANDVILLE, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO E. C. ROSE, OF SAME PLACE.
DOUBLETREE-CLEVIS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 506,769, dated October 17, 1893.
Application filed July 19, 1893. Serial No. 481,078. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ANDREW M. COLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Highlandville, county of Christian, and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Doubletree-Clevis and Bow or Circle to Equalizc the Power of Two or More Horses, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in doubletree clevises and attachments and the object of my improvement is to equalize the power of two or more horses when drawing a load.
In the drawings Figure l is a plan view and Figs. 2 and 3 are details.
A is a roller or pulley that works in the back or rear end of the clevis, which runs on the bow or semicircle B which is attached to the rear part of each end of the doubletree.
C is the clevis as it appears on the doubletree, and D is a slot in the clevis, in which an iron pin or bolt enters and passes through the double tree perpendicularly and through the opposite side of the clevis.
When the draft ring H is moved toward G the roller A moves on B toward J and the clevis on the opposite end of the double tree moves in the same manner, thereby giving the horse at that end of the double tree the advantage of the diameterof the circle, the draft all being on the roller A and bow B. When the power is equal. at each end of the doubletree, roller A, rests exactly in the center of bow B, the slot D being sufficiently long, so that at no time is there any strain on the bolt or pin that holds the clevis, to the doubletree at slot D.
The bow B is a half circle made of a solid block of iron.
The pulley or roller A is the length of the thickness of the doubletree.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
An automatic evening device for a pair of horses consisting of the pivoted evener having the semicircular plates B, the clevis C carrying the rollers A in their extreme ends, said rollers arranged to travel freely over the convex edge of plates B and take the draft strain and the clevis pins D passing through slots D in the clevis and through the ends of the evener, substantially as shown and described.
