Description

(No Model.)
H. D. ALEXANDER. VEGETABLE sLwEE.
1%., 506,088. Patented Oct. '3, L893.
ATTORNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY D. ALEXANDER, OF CANTON, OHIO.
VEGETABLE-SLICER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 506,088, dated October 3, 1893. Application filed January 23,1893. sin-a1 No.459,456. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, HENRY D. ALEXANDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vegetable-Slicers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in
which Figure 1, is a perspective view of the slicer. Fig. 2, is an edge view, showing the guide flange removed, and illustrating the position of the knife, one of the adjusting screws, and a spring. Fig. 3, is a detached view of the spring. Fig. 4, is an end view of the knife.
The present invention has relation to vegetable slicers and it consists in the different parts and combination of parts hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawm s.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the body of the slicer, which may consist of a board, and is formed of a size to correspond with the size of the slicer designed to be constructed.
To the edges of the body A, are attached 1n any convenient and well known manner, the sides a, which sides extend above the top of the body A, and are for the purpose of providing guides. The edges of the body A are provided with notches or recesses b, wh1ch notches or recesses are located directly below the ends of the knife B, and are for the purpose of providing a means for placing the springs 0, directly below the knife B as 1 llustrated in Fig. 2. The knife B, is substantially of the form shown, and as shown its bottom or under side is provided with the V-sliaped flange or rib c, whichV-shapedflange is for the purpose of stiffening the knife l3, and at the same time providing a means for lnclm ng the slice from the body of the vegetable being cut or, sliced, and is for the further purpose of receivingthe corresponding V-shaped notch 01, formed in the spring O.- From the bodyA is out the opening D, which opening is located directly below the knife B.
For the purpose of providing a bearing for the adjusting screws cl, the opening D terminates a short distance from the edges of the body A.
For the purpose of providing a means for holding the springs O, in proper operative position, the pins e, are provided, which pins are located substantially as shown in Fig. 2. The springs O, are so formed that when the screws d, are turned so as to move upward, said springs will. elevate the knife B. It will be understood that slices of different thicknesses are cut by bringing the knife B, toward or from the body A.
For the purpose of providing what is known as a shearing cut, the knife B, is set at an angle to the body A, substantially as illustrated in Fig. l.
For the purpose of providing a means for slicing the vegetable as it is moved over the body A in either direction, the knife B, is provided with a cutting edge upon each side.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of the body A, provided with guide flanges, the double edged knife B,
knife provided with the V-shaped flange o, lo-
cated below the knife B, the springs 0, provided with the notches d, and the opening D, located below the knife B, all arrangedsubstantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
HENRY D. ALEXANDER.
Witnesses LAURA SHAEFFER, F. W. BOND.
