EDWARD WILLIAM MACKENZIE-HUGHES, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE FOX SOLID PRESSED STEEL COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
STEAM-CHEST-COVER CASING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 505,164. dated September 19, 1893.
Application filed June 21. 1889.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EDWARD WILLIAM MAC- KENZIE-HUGHES, of Ohicago,Cook county, Illi nois, have invented a new and usefullmprovelnentin Steam-Ohest-Cover Casings, of which the following is a full, true, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an improvement in steam chest cover casings made of pressed steel.
My invention will be readily understood from the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1, represents a plan View; and Fig. 2, a central section through Fig. 1.
The cover A consists of a top B and side 0 having surrounding corrugated rib or projection D surrounding the cover of the steam chest. The top B is provided with numerous small elevations E pressed in the steel in the process of making the cover, and with a central cylindrical projection F having an opening G therethrough for the passage of the oil cup stem. By the formation shown the structure is made sufficiently strong for particular Serial No. 315,1 35. (No model.)
purposes; While, at the same time, the weight is greatly reduced. The Whole structure is pressed into its completed shape from a suitable blank in one operation.
