MOTOR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 504,993, dated September 12, 1893.
Application filed April 24, 1893.
To all whom it mag concern.-
Be it known that 1, DAVID ELISHA MYERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Churn-Motors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in mechanism for operating boaters and stirrers of all kinds, but more particularly for operating churn dashers. An illustration of the mechanism is had by referring to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side view of a machine in a working position. Fig. 2 is a top view showing more clearly the locality and position of the working parts of the machinery. Fig. 3 is a sectional end view showing the peculiarities of the dasher and the position of the paddles on the staff.

A suitable frame may be made of metal or of wood.
The slats S, are horizontally attached to uprights, or legs L which are secured to foot pieces F at right angles to the slats S. The base B, for the vessel V0, is located on the feet F. Each end and the center of the frame is provided with suitable base to secure the machinery mounted thereon.
The working parts of the machine consist of the sprocket wheels Sp, horizontally mounted on the frame, and engaged by the endless sprocket chain Lo, said sprocket chain being engaged and operatedby the lever 0, the lever being operated by the adjustable crank E0, the combination being plainly shown in the drawings.
The adjustable crank is made in two sections. The first section is put through a hole having a set screw in the end of the crank journal, which is secured in the boxing and fastening 13b f. The second section is put through a hole having a set screw-P in the outer end of the wrist pin which carries the lever O, the object being to change both power and speed. The crank He will not be used in connection with the adjustable crank E0, nor will the holes 10 be used when the crank is made adjustable with set Serial No. 471,710. (No model.)
screws. Where more power and less speed are required, the first section is made shorter and the second is made longer. Hence, the propriety of such a crank. The churn dasher is composed of a staff and a number of paddles D from one to two inches wide, extending on opposite sides a length suitable to any desired vessel and are placed in a position diagonal to the staff.
The vessel V0 containing the cream to be churned may be a barrel, a keg, a jar, or any vessel that will set on the base B may be utilized as a churn.
Two churns or vessels may be used at the same time utilizing both wheels.
The vessel Vs and shaft S8 represented may be utilized as a vegetable slicer.
The journal boxing for the wheels is in a form similar to cups with a movable top, the lower part being secured to a base provided for them on top of the frame and having the necessary apertures for the free passage of the chain. The guide bar G may be socured to said cups as well as to the frame.
The operation of the above described device is as follows: It may be operated by any kind of power that is attachable to other kinds of machinery. Power being applied to either of the cranks E0. or Hc. whether driven the full circuit or only in part, the same being connected to the lever O, imparts a reciprocal motion to said lever, which being engaged with the sliding block and chain which engages the Wheels imparts a rotary reversible motion thereto, and as the dasher staff or other shaft is coupled to the dependingshaft of said wheels, motion is transmitted to said staff or shaft, thereby operating upon the contents in the vessels V0. and Vs.
Having described myinvention, I claim and desire to secure the same by Letters Patent-- In a churn motor in connection with a suitable frame mounted upon uprights. The combination of a crank shaft mounted in one end of said frame. An adjustable crank arm attached thereto, a lever pivoted at one end to said crank arm and adapted to be adj ustably secured thereto, a sliding block secured to the other end of said lever. Horizontal guide Ways arranged on said frame in which the sliding block moves, sprocket Wheels mounted horizontally in the frame. Rods depending therefrom to which a dasher or other shaft may be attached. A chain engaging the sprocket wheels. A pin through the sliding block engaging said chain whereby motion is imparted to the dasher shaft through the crank arm, lever and sliding block, substantially as described.
