ADVERTISING DEVICE.

SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent NO. 504,919, dated September 12, 1893 Application filed May 6, 1893. Serial No. 474.168. (N model.)

T0 at whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, J OHN AUGUSTUS GIB- BONS, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York and Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented a certain new and Improved Advertisin g Device, of which the following is a specification.

The object of the invention is to providea device for advertising a specific article, and it consists, of a dummy representing the article being advertised, behind which dummy is placed a magazine or receptacle containing anumber of articles with mechanism arranged to move the dummy and discharge a single article at a time, substantially as hereinafter more particularly explained and then definitely claimed.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1, is a front view of my improved advertising device. Fig. 2, is a rear view of the same.

signed to contain a number of packages G, containing the tooth ache gum or other article. The dummy D, is pivoted at a, and has a crank extension H, formed on it. When the dummy is thrown open, as indicated in Fig. 1, the upper portion of the extension H, forms abottom to the magazine F, and when the dummy is closed a portion of the extension H, nearest to the dummy forms a bottom whichis lowered to a point opposite to the opening E. In opening the dummy D, the package lying on the portion of the extension H, nearest to it, is thrown forward in its position shown in Fig. 2, the other portion of the extension H being raised so as to act as a button to the magazine F, above the opening E, thus holding the bulk of the packages G,

above the opening E, so that only one package is thrown out at a time.

I, is apivoted latch provided with a button J, and designed when in a vertical position to come in contact with a hasp K, extending from the tail L, formed on the back of the extension H, as indicated. When in this position, the dummy D, is held closed and can not be removed until the clerk in charge of the device draws the latch I, clear of the hasp K, which action pulls upon the cord M, attached at one end to the latch I, and at the other end to the hasp K of the tail L, tilting the dummy D,on its pivot, thus throwing out the package lying on the extension H, as indicated in Fig. 1. The extension H, is either weighted or provided with a spring to throw it back and close the dummy D, immediately that the package is removed from it, which action brings the latch I, again into contact with the hasp K, thereby locking the dummy in a closed position. A bell N, is hung by a light spring 0, on the extension H, so that any movement of thedummy will immediately be announced by the ringing of the bell. Several boxes P, of packages G, may be held onto the back of the plate A.

' What I claim as my invention is- 1. A plate A, suitably supported on one edge and having an opening E, through it at the bottom of the magazine F, in combination with a dummy D, pivoted in front of the opening E, and provided with an extension H, forming a bottom for the magazine F, and mechanism for holding the dummy closed, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

2. A plate A, suitably supported on one edge and having an opening E, through it at the bottom of the magazine F, a dummy D, pivoted in front of the opening E, and provided with an extension H, forminga bottom for the magazine F, in combination with the hasp K on said extension H, a pivoted latch I, acting on said hasp K, and cord M, forming a connection between said latch I and extension H substantially as and for the purpose specified.
